- From $58.94 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 6.4Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 246 reviewsHas every basic convinience for a short stay: Close to the train/bus station. Electric outlet near bed. Heater ( a bit weak, but ok) Lamp at bed. And rarely seen at a budget place : Heated matress A sink ( toilet is external ) Of course all in simple, rustic form - but i stll liked it because having all that more refined would have been double or triple the price.Guest review byKlaus D FritscherBrazil
- From $138.58 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 288 reviewsGreat place to stay! The bed was really comfortable, and our room had a spa bath, which was fantastic! Great air conditioning, comfy pillows, good sized towels, and right across the road from the local pub. The breakfast left in our room each night was great too. Toast, fruit, yoghurt, cereal. More than enough. It was one of the nicer motels I've stayed in.Guest review byJay-JayNew Zealand

We came to Greymouth on the Tranz Alpine train from Christchurch. Excellent trip. Lovely river walk and great restaurants and cafes in the central town. An easy town to explore on foot. Lots of local history about the town. Definitely recommend Greymouth for a short stay.Guest review byRachelNew Zealand - 10.0

A perfect spot to stay before starting the Paparoa Track.
A perfect spot to stay before starting the Paparoa Track. Staff were helpful, meals were lovely and the shared bathrooms were spotless! Single duvets tended to slip off bed as not enough tuck-in and only one reading light but beds were comfy, location was quiet so very satisfied with the room.Guest review byIreneNew Zealand - 8.0
Loved having the bar so close to the accomodation!
Loved having the bar so close to the accomodation! Very friendly west coast bar. Bar manager/owner was very helpful and friendly. Bed was so comfortable and room clean. Breakfast was help yourself from a big range of options - plenty of choice. Location is 10km north of Greymouth in a mining town with working coal mines around. Great beach 3k up the road with a mining machine displayed. Great sunsets too. Pub pizza and meals available.Guest review byMalcolmNew Zealand - 10.0

We were attending a wedding in Greymouth so wanted accommodation that could cater for a group of 7 possibly 9 people. I booked the property, we had the whole place and it was simple to increase the number of guests if we needed too. We had a baby with us too which was very well catered for. Older children would have had a great time too with so much outdoor space to run around. There was so much more than 'basics'. Just a beautiful stay, relaxing to the max. Comfort in all areas, beds to sofa's lovely. Midges were a bit of a nuisance, but that's the West Coast. The deck was lovely to sit out on with a view over the river 100% perfect. Even the tree in the garden was perfectly placed. :) A loaf of freshly baked bread and 6 freshly laid eggs from the hens that run around, so much to offer those that will be unfamiliar to this kind of lifestyle. Even the cows were right up by the fence.Guest review byDianeNew Zealand - 10.0
Gee, how long have you got?
Gee, how long have you got? I loved the swimming pool + the Westland Recreation Centre. We loved visiting Shantytown, spent 3 hours there, could easily have spent 4! Eating.... we had evening meals at Buccleughs on High, excellent food and lovely quiet atmosphere. We had our next evening meal at Montieths Brewery, which was a lot noisier, but Oh! Such yummy fish! We visited the incredibly impressive Pounamu Pathways museum & experience, which is quite new, and VERY impressive. It was realized with help from Sir Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop. (Pounamu is the name for Greenstone). I've included a photo. We also had a very tasty lunch at Sevenpenny Cafe (pictured).Guest review byWalker - 10.0

Village in a beautiful setting near native forest park and overlooking Lake Brunner. A small number of occupied original houses and lots of new modern holiday homes that would likely be busy in the Summer water-skiing season. Neat historic railway buildings. A great place to stop on the Tranzscenic with a couple of good places to eat overlooking the lake. Beautiful short bush walks nearby.Guest review byJaneNew Zealand - 10.0

Barrytown itself is small but there is a good tavern, All Nations, where you can get a meal, drinks, and friendly local company. It's worth booking a tour with Golden Sands Horse and Wagon Tours for some history of the area and an old-time experience. An easy drive north from Barrytown to Punakaike and Trueman Track or South to Greymouth.Guest review byAnneNew Zealand - 10.0
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Very friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner there which was super tasty. Excellent breakfast included in the price and a bonus if you are heading off to do the Paparoa Track as we were. Blackball itself is a cute wee town and worth a visit in itself.Guest review byAlfNew Zealand
