- From $128.22 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 199 reviewsWe loved everything about our stay at Lochmara Lodge. We stayed for two nights with our family and It was a little bit of a splurge, but did not disappoint! The location was stunning, the fact that you got there by water taxi made it remote and uncrowded, and there were plenty of things to do (hike, paddleboard, kayak). Also, the food was delicious and the staff was accommodating and helpful.Guest review byLaurenUnited States
- From $56.05 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very Good - What previous guests thought, 592 reviewsVery happy with the stay. I did arrive late on the first night and left early hours of the morning, as I only needed a pit stop to sleep before catching the ferry to Wellington - so didn’t really get to see too much during. Great location as it’s right next door to Picton. Had everything you needed and was good value for the money. Very clean and tidy.Guest review byNaomiUnited Kingdom

The owners were lovely and even informed us when our room was ready before check in time. The room had everything needed for a longer stay. Too bad we had to catch the morning ferry and had to leave at 6 amGuest review byMarleenUnited States

Lochmara Bay has so much to see and do and has beautiful scenery. Peaceful and quiet if you don't mind the odd speedboat or jetski. Lochmara Lodge is a fantastic option for people stopping in from tramping on the Queen Charlotte Track or visiting by boat (20 mins from Picton) - the accommodation was excellent as was the food and activities on offer. They even take your bags boat to door and back! Activities include roaming the stunning gardens with unusual forest artwork, enjoying the wildlife in the forest and marine life from the viewing boat, feeding the animals, kayaking, swimming when warm enough, lying in the hammocks!!! Big shout out to the staff who work hard and are helpful and friendly.Guest review byAnonymousNew Zealand - 8.0

We did the Queen Charlotte s walk and staying in the lodge was such a treat for us. They offer pack lunch to rake away for the people doing the track which is really helpfull and there is an outdoor spa available.Guest review byGaelleNew Zealand - 10.0

I loved the remoteness of where we stayed, yet the sense of being safe and looked after by the locals. The views and natural environment are sublime. The only permitted way to get here is currently by boat as the road has been damaged by a storm and is only allowed to be used by residents' and service vehicles. This makes it very safe to walk up the road to tracks into the wonderlands the area has to offer. The walks vary from fairly easy to somewhat taxing. Some of the tracks have a challenging gradient if you are not used to walking, and would be more difficult if they are wet. Having said that, we are 'senior citizens' with average fitness and we managed to summit the Onahau lookout (416 meters / 1368 feet) above sea level) and return in one piece.Guest review byTomNew Zealand - 8.0

While many will only see Picton as a quick stopover between the North and South Islands it is really worth spending a little more time there. It is a lovely little town with great scenery, wonderful access to Queen Charlotte Sound and good food, shopping and friendly people.Guest review byRichardAustralia - 8.0

Stunning location and very cool property that is perfect for families. Be careful with exploring- we had an accident. Loved the paddle-boarding and glow-worms. Very patchy internet connections. Views from the rooms wonderful. Cafe has good food and coffee although pricey. I would bring more food to self-cater another time. Appreciated access to a laundry.Guest review byClaireNew Zealand - 10.0

No one told us that we should have caught the Ferry to Punga Cove from Picton. We drove for hours only to find out that the road was closed for maintenance. Very annoying and we had to wait for hours to drive through a very short window of time to get through. Apparently Booking.com was told by the property, but the Booking.com did not tell us. Disappointing!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

The peaceful environment and the time to relax in beautiful surroundings. Lovely environment to just chill out and away from stress. Take a tour with Phil through the sounds on his boat. Sports massage with Julie is awesome too.Guest review byKarenNew Zealand - 10.0

Stunning views down the harbour and plenty of eateries and accommodation options. We ate at Cortado twice as we could take our Labrador inside & they had a fab dog menu! A beautiful drive across to Anakiwa. We’ll definately stay longer next time.Guest review byPatriciaNew Zealand - 10.0
An unspoilt location to enjoy a break.
An unspoilt location to enjoy a break. The Marlborough Sounds are unique and it takes a little effort to get there, but well worth it to enjoy the tranquillity and all it offers. Lovely clear water to swim or other water sports. Excellent outdoor cafe for evening meal or you can self cater. Portage hotel is close by also had good food.Guest review byTrishNew Zealand
