Interesting art deco hotel that must have fallen through in times and they're now trying to get it back and running. The building has a lot of potential. Although currently it is in a state of repair. It is nice to see the old rooms and interior. For the price we paid, not bad. Once renovated, this hotel will have a bright future.

What a fabulous little spot to stay!! Graeme and Deborah are simply the sweetest, most hospitable people that clearly care so much for making each guest as comfortable as possible. My partner and I were pleasantly surprised to find that they provided a wide variety of little foods for our breakfasts, including eggs, jams, breads, bananas, oatmeal, cereals, and even homemade muffins!! They were so thoughtful to find bread that could accommodate my partner's allergies, which was so compassionate of them. The room was spotless and very cozy, with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the views. Graeme is a landscaper so they have decorated the grounds with beautiful flowers and their garden plants--absolutely lovely framing for the quaint pastures the property backs up against. Couldn't give higher recommendations!!

Nice quaint NZ town.... Not a lot of appeal to the CBD... Many shops and businesses appear to have closed as a state of Covid following and the economy. People friendly and pleasant though. Lookout by water tower well maintained.... The large Dam over past hospital well maintained park area.... Safe and clean... Accosted by 2 groups in town by ATM asking for cash for petrol and food... Not something I've seen commonly in NZ... Esp in s. All towns .. But possibly a relection of the economy as many people feeling the pinch of rediculous COL increases in NZ food, rents and services in last 5 years... Being a Kiwi... That's heartbreaking to witness... Tokoroa is a pleasant safe small NZ town and worth a visit. Couple of great breakfast cafes open early in the morning. Tokoroa still suffers from stinky Wood mill treatment processes in the air... Authorities and environment Authorities should be hammering the company to improve their environment impacts... They've had decades to improve their environment performance... Particularly the smell that hangs in the air all the time... Which you get used to.. But shouldn't have to get used to... This is green beautiful NZ... Not bloody Hong Kong or Calcutta... Sort it out Mill management and local and national Authorities. It shouldn't be acceptable to pollute the air people breath by big industry...

Putaruru like so many smaller towns in NZ struggles.

Putaruru like so many smaller towns in NZ struggles. It is obviously on the main route for heavy trucks and few seem to stop over. Not much choice of sit-down food outlets but Wooden Farmer staff worked hard to make sure we were happy when we had dinner. Short drive to Rotorua and Matamata which was good for us. Local supermarket is small but carries a good range.

A lovely restoration of an Old Lady!

A lovely restoration of an Old Lady! Setting beautiful, rooms warm and cosy. Food was fantastic, complements to the chef! A couple of suggestions. A light or 2 at the pools would be helpful, it was pitch black at 5.30pm, we couldn't see a thing!! Also, the changing room needs a complete overhaul. The hotel was full but the bar was closed at 9.00pm and the lounge not long after so nowhere else to go. Suggest you have the bar/lounge open longer as many guests were disappointed cause they wanted to relax and enjoy the warm lounge around the fire!

I looked for places to eat online. The Italian restaurant is only open 6 hours a week, the Indian restaurant was closed, the pub also was closed, another restaurant listed didn't even exist - nowhere to eat

It was everything we expected because the photos of the rooms depicted exactly what it was and it was affordable. I could park my car by the front entrance of the Hotel and the Staff were friendly. If I had extra time I would of loved to hang out for another night or two.

Monty the dog was very friendly the owners could take a leaf out of his book. When I booked in all the owner was interested in was the money. The day before I booked out I notified the owner that I was leaving 5.00am in the morning and what to do with the keys. The owner said "have you paid" I said 'yes' she said leave the key in the room. No, did you have a nice stay or thank you for choosing our place or safe travels none of that just 'have you paid'. No understanding of hospitality. The shower was a trickle (don't try to wash your hair) it was an effort to get the toilet to flush, the room was constantly full of flies, 6 night stay and the bed was changed twice room clean a few times (the cleaning staff were lovely). It appears the owners are only in it for the money and do not care about hospitality, hygiene, comfort or value for money (you are not nice people).

Gives the impression of being run down.

Gives the impression of being run down. Had a takeaway roast meal. Very fatty. Would avoid BnB and get a motel in the Main Street. travelled from Tauranga and the distance wasn't too far plus we were well placed for starting trip back to Wellington in am.

I stayed (1 night) overnight on my way to next destination, this is long enough. I did visit the Blue Springs (still free entry at the time of writing but they are building a gate!) but unfortunately access was blocked due to rock-fall. Walking along the river was nice but there are steps and when wet it can be slippery. Car park is small and fills up fast. People were friendly but told me there is nothing to do.

I really liked the way that the hotel had retained its old world charm and atmosphere. Hadn't given in to tacky touches, but kept to the integrity of the furnishings etc. A very comfortable bed, as well.
