United StatesAkwaba lodge is located at the middle of Isla Solarte about a 10 minute boat ride ($10/person) from Bocas del Toro. It is on a hill overlooking the water and Isla Bastimentos
Breakfast is included in your stay. Lunch dinner and beverages are available at a very reasonable price. The lodge is an eco style lodge surrounded by jungle. Though there are no hiking trails through the jungle you are serenaded by the sounds of birds. Kayaks, SUP and snorkeling equipment is available for your use. Your host and their children are wonderful and will do anything to make your stay a pleasant and wonderful experience.
Things to know, the lodge is off the grid with good WiFi and does not have AC, but we were comfortable with our open windows and ceiling fan. The lodge accepts credit cards, but tours and water taxis are cash only so bring US dollars. Side trips to Red Frog Beach and Green Acres Chocolate are a must. Pack insect repellent and anti-itch cream.

You are in the jungle and see all kinds of birds and wildlife, but you still have all of your comforts, like a nice bed, a beautiful relaxing space with a deck and hammock, a clean bathroom and hot shower. Jen cooks amazing dishes and always has the coffee on when you arrive for breakfast. She accommodates your dietary needs and the food includes lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can even watch her machete a fresh coconut for you to drink from, to get an electrolyte boost!

I loved everything about staying here. The property is so unique and it was an unforgettable experience. I’m writing this review on the last morning of my stay, sitting in my hammock looking out at the jungle, drinking the cacao tea brought to my room this morning, hoping I’ll catch one last view of the mama and baby sloth we spotted on our farm tour yesterday.
The food has been outstanding, I looked forward to every meal, and when we did our day trip to Zapatilla islands (a must do - snorkeling, starfish, and dolphins on the way there, then the most pristine beach at these small national park islands), they packed lunch for us to bring.
The rooms are so comfortable (obviously there are some bugs, but the netting around the bed works great and there’s ample bug spray and a fan above the bed) and it felt like a little paradise

The staff was incredibly nice and friendly. The room was really nice. It felt a little bit humid but I guess it rained a lot.
It is a beach front place so that really makes a difference , very comfortable lovely place awesome view awesome beaches Food is good great. It can be quiet at night so it’s nice for a relaxing time.

This is a perfect place to chill out. Excellent accommodations, beautiful property, wonderful beaches, good restaurants, and we toured the island in a golf cart which was terrific (a hoot!). It was a great vacation experience.

I truly loved the Island of Bastimentos of which I stayed.
I truly loved the Island of Bastimentos of which I stayed. I did long walks along the island and I also hiked right through the middle of the island to get to Wizard beach. It's a gem that's unspoiled and untouched by droves of tourist. I hope it stays that way.
However, I have one big issue with this Island called Bastimentos that was heart breaking for me. There was entirely too much garbage strewn along the edges circulating the island. They need a major litter clean up campaign by this community. It was a turn off for such a beautiful Island with beautiful people.
Entirely to much garbage like plastic bottles, cans, glass bottles, old cloths, bags, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. I don't know if it's washed up by the sea from neighboring islands or thrown there by the community. It's highly visible and can ruin visitors coming here if they don't clean it up.
I can only hope this matter of pollution is addressed. All the best Bastimentos.
