"Very nice lodge in the middle of the jungle.pick up from the airport is included; even though our flight was delayed we got to iquitos a day later than planned the guide was already waiting for us. On the way to the lodge there s a stop at the lsla de los monos (awesome!!). The programme includes at least three excursions a day, dolphin watch, piranha fishing, night walk through the jungle etc... our guide victor was excellent and showed a great knowledge of flora and fauna.asked for a specific bird (oropendula) we went looking for it and we got to see a tukan as well thanks to him. The lodge is beautifully located and well maintained. The rooms are spacious and secured with moskito nets. Private bathrooms and warm showers! Long electricity periods to charge mobile phones etc. Nice, clean pool. Amazing food, a bottle of freshly squeezed juice is included in each meal.coffee, tee, purified water available all day for free; bottled water, soft drinks and cocktails during bar hours (reasonable prices)."

    Jacamar Lodge Expedition, Santa Cruz
    8.6 Fabulous 156 reviews
Description The Jacamar Lodge Expedition is located on the banks of the Amazon River, in the middle of the jungle and 120 km from downtown Iquitos.

"Danny, the owner, was very responsive in responding to our e-mail enquiries. Danny picked us up from our hotel in Iquitos but I believe he will also pick you up at the airport if you are flying in the same day. The lodge is about 2 hours downriver from Iquitos in a secluded location on a small tributary of the Amazon. It appeared from my research that this is one of the less expensive Amazon lodges. It is certainly excellent value for the price. Sure, it is basic and rustic but I don't think you'd be reading this review right now if you were looking for a luxury lodge. The staff at the lodge are fantastic, the food is good, and the daily tours are great. We are older Canadians, 69 and 68 years old, and I think the staff were extra kind to us because of our age. We particularly enjoyed the tour to the animal rescue centre, bird spotting, seeing the sunsets, seeing the pink dolphins, swimming in the Amazon, visiting a tribal village, trying a blowgun, doing a jungle walk, and fishing for piranhas. Our guide for all of these tours was Junior -- he was fantastic, had a good sense of humour, and was always making sure that we were comfortable and o.k. Juan and Ryder are also great guides and great guys. Cold beer (10 soles for a large one) and cold coke (3 soles) is available at the lodge but if you want rum and cokes, take along your own rum (Ron Cortavio Black is good and cheap) which is what we did. We also took along a few snack foods (doritos, chitos, cookies, peanuts, etc.). Drinking water is available and free from a big dispenser but bring along a plastic bottle to pour it into. Mosquitoes weren't a huge problem but you'll still want to bring repellent. They don't come out until about 6 p.m. and then seem to vanish around 8 p.m. Our room was well-screened and we never did see a mosquito in it during our entire stay. We were advised that this area is not malarial so we chose not to take malarial meds."
