The hotel is located within walking distance from some very important historical landmarks (the Lisbon Cathedral, Saint George's Castle, the National Pantheon, the Rua Augusta Arch, etc.) and quite close to the main Rossio square. You have quite a lot of restaurants nearby, although transportation around Alfama (other than a couple of trams, including the historical 28E, and a bus to the castle) is relatively scarce. However, it wasn't an issue to get around on foot. While the hotel is in a very touristic area, the rooms are very well soundproof and you won't be bothered by the noise on the busy streets around. I'd say the rooms are about the right size (not too big, not too small), really comfortable, squeaky clean and the breakfast at the hotel was very good (quite a lot of options). The welcome gift (custard tarts, Ginja liqueur and a hand painted tile) were a lovely detail. To top it all off, the personnel was incredibly kind and helpful. Every single one of them. I think it is the best hotel I've have stayed in so far! If you are planning to go to Lisbon, you can't go wrong with them.

The location of the hotel was perfect - most tourist attractions and the historic centre of town could be reached on foot, but there is a metro station down the road as well. The hotel room was super clean and the bed comfortable. We had breakfast one morning and enjoyed it a lot. A really great hotel that exceeded our expectations.

We chose Nicola Rosario Hotel due to its location, and were still surprised of how wonderful it is located. It’s quiet, but yet has a perfect location. Our rooms had a beautiful view over Rossio plaza and to the Castel. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome, with a drink and little Portuguese pastry. The room and hotel has always been very clean. Even while it rains, they handled the situation well. If we decide to come back to Lisbon, we will stay here again. Thanks for having us.

The biggest disappointment was purchasing an all day pass for two to ride the buses. We were out waiting for the bus early to get to our scheduled time at Pena and two buses stopped but would not make room for just the two of us to get on (no one else was at the stop). It was raining and we ended up having to hike up to Pena in a hurry to get to our time slot. I am still trying to get my purchase refunded as we were never able to ride the bus.

The main square in Cascais was great and a good meeting point. Loads of restaurants and shops up several streets of the main square. You can bike ride, walk, taxi or drive around. The taxis were good value. Our bike ride was one of my favourite things to do as you see so much and get your bearings. The marina was great too. It is close to Lisbon with a good train service and also to Sintra.

Setubal is absolutely fabulous and I am so glad I decided to extend my trip at the last minute and add Setubal. It has a great vibe. Lovely cobblestone streets and colorful buildings. Shops and restaurants on every street. There's the water and beachfront. There are lots of lovely green spaces, parks and playgrounds and gardens. It really has everything and it feels very authentic. I loved it and would happily go back!

Sesimbra is a hidden gem on Portugal’s coast -peaceful, charming, and full of natural beauty. The beaches are pristine, with golden sand and crystal-clear water, perfect for swimming or relaxing. The town offers delicious seafood, friendly locals, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. Whether you're hiking in the nearby Arrábida mountains, exploring the historic castle, or enjoying fresh fish by the sea, Sesimbra has something for everyone. It's a perfect escape from the crowds - authentic, scenic, and unforgettable.

Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want...

Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want a relaxing break away. There are plenty of hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants but there isn’t a specific area or ‘strip’ of these, they are just dotted around. The casino and its garden are a dominant and attractive focal point so there are a few places near to it. There’s Portuguese food, of course, but also Italian, Chinese, Indian and Japanese. You can get fish and seafood dishes of any sort but there’s also lots of steak on offer. Prices are very reasonable. Some people travel in and out of the town specifically and solely to use the beach by day or the casino by night, some to attend events at the glamorous looking fort on the beach, so the town isn’t dead but it can feel quiet at certain times. It’s definitely a chilled out place to stay in. There are only a few local shops for groceries and not really any souvenir shops. In my opinion, it has more of a local, residential vibe and isn’t touristy. For a change of scene, by train Cascais is just a 5 minute ride away or Lisbon is about 40 minutes away. It’s great to visit either and then escape the crowds by returning to Estoril! There is currently a replacement bus service in operation after 9pm (not sure how easy that is to use) but at other times the trains are very frequent and inexpensive.

Oeiras is a suburb of Lisbon, so not overwhelmed by tourists. We found some great places to eat that were appreciative of our custom. There was a fantastic vegan restaurant just outside the town centre (Alma Veg). The main problem for us was the ddual carriageway that passes right by the beaches.

Montijo is a hidden gem that beautifully blends traditional charm with modern amenities. Nestled close to Lisbon yet far enough to offer a serene escape, this town captivates with its rich history, friendly locals, and stunning natural landscapes. The quaint streets, vibrant markets, and delicious local cuisine provide an authentic taste of Portuguese culture. Its proximity to the Tagus River offers picturesque views and opportunities for leisurely walks or boat rides. Montijo is also a gateway to beautiful farm stays, where you can experience the peaceful countryside and savor fresh, local produce. The town's relaxed pace and welcoming vibe make it perfect for unwinding, while its convenient location allows easy exploration of nearby attractions. Whether you’re seeking tranquility, cultural immersion, or a base for day trips, Montijo delivers an unforgettable experience. A true Portuguese treasure that leaves you wanting to return!
