I found public transport difficult to understand.
I found public transport difficult to understand. I am used to London and I have used other cities metro systems. Porto's zone system is bonkers. The official website is almost useless, even for a native English speaker. Apart from that we loved Porto and had several excellent restaurant meals. We chose the restaurants at random, the overall standard seems high. We booked 1 trip to wineries in the Douro valley with Viator. Vila do Conde is a charming town that is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of a large city, if that is what you are used to, or looking to get away from. There are many good restaurants in the area. I had returned from a holiday in the UK and needed to stay near the airport as it was a night time arrival. The suites are just a 5 minute walk from the airport, and also very close to a metro station for getting into Porto. I stayed in a different apartment the night before my trip, however, I wish I had known about these suites as I would also have stayed here the night before my outward journey. Conveniently located is an excellent, traditional Portuguese restaurant just along the street. Big portions, friendly staff - some speak English - and very inexpensive. The rooms are more than what you need, and the shared kitchen area with complementary breakfast are an added bonus. It is also possible to cook in the kitchen as there is a cooker and fridge. We have absolutely fallen in love with Mindelo, not touristy at all, has a rustic charm, the coastline is stunning, a place to explore, relax and recharge....the food/restaurants in the area are affordable and delicious!
