Cute small Pt town with everything one needs.
Cute small Pt town with everything one needs. Beautiful castle and old town. Stayed 3 nights and that was just right for seniors. If we were younger 2 nights would have been enough unless you want to daytrip from that location. Only about 2 hours from Braga and less from Guimaraes. Easy drive without much traffic in September. We ate at Solar and at Rosina. Both recommended. Train museum is small, but free, and really nice, next to Lidl. There is also a Castanha/Marron (chestnut) store with everything chestnut and a small free museum downstairs. You can grab a bite to eat too. I had a pastel de castanha (chestnut egg custard tart) and castanha icecream. Both good. we bought some jams and spreads and some gifts for Christmas to bring home.Guest review byK.D.7Portugal - 10.0

I love Chaves, small ancient town which has a river going through it with its own Roman bridge going across it… wonderful restaurants, the food is amazing here in the north of Portugal! Amazing places to stay with fabulous Portuguese restaurants! You’re also close to one of the nicest wine regions in the world! If you drive go trough Régua up the Douro where the grapes are grown! Unbelievable gorgeous, truly stunningGuest review byLuis ManuelPortugal - 6.0

Peso de Regua was ok but it seemed like a place of missed opportunities. So many places where there could have been really lovely restaurants and bars overlooking the river. We did go to a fantastic local restaurant called Restaurante Vila Douro Regua above the town and a 15 min walk from the Casa de Sao Domingos.Guest review byLeeUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Vila Real is a nice town with all factilities available, some nice and affordabled places to eat or have a drink. It is within 30 minutes of driving from the Douro valley. A great ride will bring you in the wineries over there. Be prepared that wine tasting in the Douro valley is overpriced.Guest review byWimNetherlands - 10.0

The town is busy during the day with tourists but quiet in the evening. The town is a bit shabby but very pleasant. The restaurants finish serving meals in the evening very early. The food in the restaurants was wholesome with large portionsGuest review bySheenaSpain - 10.0
Very interesting town. Amazing views.
Very interesting town. Amazing views. Good for a couple of days break. Hot in the summer, but I imagine there are some lovely walks in cooler weather. Lots of shops with bargain priced quality bedding and towels if you want to stock up. Quite hilly, so keeps you fit.Guest review byEdwardSpain - 10.0

This is a great place to spend the best time in the Douro Valley and enjoy the surroundings with the best views, terrace vineyards and wineries. The outdoor pool attracts you even more, especially if you have a teenager who wants to spend time around the pool / beach.Guest review byAsparuhBulgaria - 10.0
Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar...
Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar. Next day go to Foz do Sabor and eat "peixinhos do rio" at a local restaurant. Then go to Horta da Vilarica, try to find out where the Padaria is and buy the local bread - out of this world. In Foz Coa you need to see the prehistoric rock-art sites in the Coa Valley - you have never seen anything like that. And drink the local wine, eat the local cheeses, try the local sausages and enjoy the friendly people. You'll not regret it.Guest review byMAUnited States - 8.0
Interesting town divided by a scenic river.
Interesting town divided by a scenic river. Seems to be a nut capital with bulk walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts for sale everywhere. Many reasonable restaurants, but breakfast options limited. Good shopping and pedestrian streets, all within walking distance.Guest review byJohnCanada - 8.0

Braganca has a proud and interesting history actively promoted by local businesses and officials. Unfortunately we arrived late on Saturday and left Monday so couldn’t explore the shopping scene. So we explored the surrounding national parks. Local cuisine is proudly meat based with very generous portions!Guest review byRitaAustralia
