Drive to "Babin Zub" hotel (~20km away, ~1600m altitude) and then go by foot to "Babin Zub" mountain top nearby or the highest one "Midžor" (2158m altitude), 8km away. Pirot and it's surroundings offer so much. Waterfalls, lakes, hiking. The town itself can be explored in a couple of days, worth it. However, you might find there is insufficient information and must rely on navigation. Otherwise, food is good and 20% cheaper than in Belgrade. Very nice place to stay for Skiing or hiking in Babin Zub. It is ~15 mins drive to the resort. It has an amazing cozy atmosphere without huge hotels - only village and guest houses. The nature around the town is amazing. The ski resort Babin Zub offers great service for it's ski pass prices! The only downsides are the black roads to some guest houses, poor 3G coverage, and the meat-based cuisine. If you want to eat something different than meat, dairy or fries, you have to cook it yourself as the few restaurants and pizzeria in the town don't offer much versatility.
