We walked from the town to the old cemetery to see Wild Bill and Calamity Jane’s graves. It’s a long uphill walk with lots of stars Better to drive up to it and leave the car just outside. Only their bus can take passengers into the graveyard (for a fee of course). Otherwise, you’ll have to walk to see the it. We really enjoyed our rustic stay at Mount Rushmore Under Canvas! Everything was clean and cozy, and we especially loved the lobby area—it was such a great space to relax. The campground itself had a wonderful atmosphere and felt very peaceful. Just a tip for future guests: bring a flashlight for walking around at night, and keep in mind that there’s no electricity in the tents (important if you use a CPAP). Breakfast was a highlight—we had a delicious breakfast sandwich that really hit the spot before heading out for the day. Do not recommend! The room i received was over run with flies, mosquitoes, gnats and spiders. The walls looked like they had not been cleaned in months and the bed linens were filthy! Hill City is a great place to stay.
Hill City is a great place to stay. It's beautiful and right in the middle of all Black Hills attractions. Keystone is like 15 min drive away, Sylvan Lake is 3 miles away, Rapid City is 27 miles. Everywhere you drive, the scenery is amazing, so even driving 30 minutes to Rapid City is a quick, pleasurable drive. Hill Citys Main street has lots of nice dining and shopping options, including a Subway for a picnic lunch at Sylvan Lake. Hill City also has a nice Grocery store and a hardware store, unlike Keystone. Wind River National Park is good. Evans Plunge Pool is nice swim unique and affordable. Nice historic town buildings. The Mammoth site is world class, very good.
