Carolina Beach was a nice surprise for a summer vacation in...
Carolina Beach was a nice surprise for a summer vacation in July. Had never been there before and didn't know what to expect but we fell in love with it. The ocean was just so warm & beautiful, and the beach was so sandy and large. We noticed rain clouds pop up during the afternoons over land, but it was always sunny at the beach! There was more than we expected here - not just the ocean but the town itself was hopping. Restaurants, shops, and things to do on the boardwalk. There is an actual amusement park; expensive, but there. We never made it to the Carolina Beach State Park, but that will be high on our list for next time. We spent very little time in our motel because we were always out and about. Leave your car parked and just walk everywhere. Also, a trip into Wilmington to see the battleship is well worth it - mind-blowing.Guest review byLindyUnited States - 10.0

Beautiful beaches, lots of places to eat nearby and very low key. If you are looking for a long weekend but the beach, this is your spot! We loved "The Drift" for breakfast and if you want a cool place for after dinner go to Concord Espresso Bar. The Flight of Espresso Martinis and S'mores are great. Make reservations ahead of time for outside. Careful not to burn yourself on the Marshmallows like me!Guest review byAmieUnited States - 10.0
Sunrise walks on the beach are a MUST!
Sunrise walks on the beach are a MUST! Seafood at local restaurants was good. Michael’s is a place I’ve returned too. Cute local shops with lots of convenience. A short drive to tourist locations. Highly recommend the sunset river tour!Guest review byLydiaUnited States - 10.0
We just stayed over one night.
We just stayed over one night. The 2 restaurants we visited and little cafe were very nice with excellent staff! Carolina Grill & Bar, The Sunny Daze and Malaya Cafe were the places we ate at. If the rather had been better we would have spent much more time on the beach, but the shops were fun to go browsing in.Guest review byLaVanway - 10.0
I love Shell Island Resort!
I love Shell Island Resort! We go every year to celebrate my birthday. We always enjoy that each room has an ocean view. We love the easy access to the beach. It is an old resort but in great condition, obviously some things could use an update, but they are not anything that will ruin your trip.Guest review byJordyn - 10.0

We stayed in Kure Beach in the winter time so it was pretty much a ghost town, which is what we wanted. We had to drive a couple miles daily to Carolina Beach to eat and shop but it was a gorgeous drive. The Civil War history of Fort Fisher is a MUST for any American history buff. The Fort Fisher aquarium was a nice visit as well and worth the few bucks admission. Our favorite meal was in Carolina Beach at The Hang Ten Cafe, new parking in the rear of the place so don't pay to park. We hiked the basin trail, beautiful, but had to stop at the end of the salt water marsh bridge as the water flooded the trail, just needed water proof shoes to see the WW2 bunker and look out. As with any beach town, be ready to pay to park, everywhere.Guest review byRichUnited States - 10.0
Absolutely loved it! Wish we could have stayed longer.
Absolutely loved it! Wish we could have stayed longer. I was proposed to Wednesday night on the beach ( wish it had been videoed ) . He had me to turn around to look at something , then told me to turn around and he was on one knee. Not what I was expecting at all. I will never forget that night.Guest review byBonnieUnited States - 6.0

I visited Wrightsville beach several times in the past ten years. It is my go to beach. I will have to find another location to stay at for beach trips due to the poor sleeping accommodations at Shell Island .Guest review byToniUnited States
