Their response was incredible — they immediately contacted the bus company, tracked down my wallet within minutes, and arranged for it to be returned to CatBa. Literal life savers! The staff also booked all my tours for me. I highly recommend the night kayaking trip with glow-in-the-dark plankton — such a cool experience! Their laundry service was great, and the daily happy hour is a fun, low-key way to meet other travelers. This isn’t a party hostel, so expect a more relaxed, chill vibe. But if you're looking for nightlife, you’re only a 5-minute walk from the two lively spots on the island. It’s easy to be lazy here — there are plenty of great restaurants and massage places within a 10-minute walk. Enjoyed Cat Ba, but don’t go on others reviews for accomodation, check out places fully, we changed places twice and would have changed again but decided to stick it out, do not accept a bad room, ask for one which you believe you have paid for and as it was described when you booked it. Don’t book for a weekend or public holiday, the Vietnamese flood the town. Most travelers skip Haiphong. This is a mistake. If you travel to eat, don’t skip Haiphong. The food is interesting, delicious, varied and exceptional. We had the best Pho here that we’ve had in four trips to Vietnam. The people of Haiphong are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The city center has a lovely park running through it. The old colonial architecture is rundown in places but interesting to look at. A lot of ports, so there are a lot of big trucks transporting containers. I felt a little dangerously on my motorcycle in Vietnam traffic. But it is true, that 70 km per hour is all you need. A lot of seafood. The lane cabin was by far the best part, you have a nice view around and you can enjoy hills on the other side. Easy way from Hanoi. Great place for tours/excursions such as the cruises that take place often, or a day trip organised to other areas. Had some lovely restaurants and coffee spots too. However, currently lots of construction taking place in the town so if you had time, I'd say it's worth it for the visit but wouldn't be missing out on loads currently if you planned to go but with no intention of doing the cruises or a tour.Guest review byCiaraIreland - 6.0

Did not want to do the hiking in Cat Ba national park, however we hired a scooter and this is a great way of seeing a place.
