Set in well maintained grounds, this hotel isn't troubled by issues such as road noise but is still convenient for venues such as the Knockhill racing circuit or as a starting point for touring Fife. I found all the staff very helpful and friendly, they'll carry bags to your room etc. if your room is on the first floor. The food was excellent, I went with the bar snacks rather than full dinner and enjoyed the meal plus some well kept beer; the cooked breakfast grill was also really nice and there's a Continental option. Food service was quick too. My room (24) was at the end of the wing on upper floor and was really quiet so I slept very well. The room was an impressive size with large bed, desk, two arm chairs and sofa plus wardrobe and console table for kettle and tea/coffee making. The bed had a mattress topper and was very comfortable.

- The water flow in the shower was weak; if you hope for a really invigorating morning shower then prepare to be disappointed. Maybe because my room was at the end of the wing so the pressure had dropped off? - The WiFi in the room barely got past 4Gbps download and far less upload which could make video conferencing struggle. - Room keys remain traditional keys; it didn't worry me but some people may seek the added security of smart card door access. - There's no air-conditioning in the room I was in, although there was a fan and the windows open a decent amount. To be honest, the chance of a truly sweltering evening and night in Scotland are pretty slim! - There no mini-fridge or DAB/FM radio in the room. I eventually found how to get radio on the quite basic Freeview TV but it was a faff.

It was perfect for what we wanted, a good night's rest before taking the car back to London and from there returning home (to France). The night was completely calm, we couldn't hear the slightest noise, and the bed was comfy. The hotel has a swimming pool and gym but we were a bit too tired to use them.

The hotel is well suited for conferences and seminars. I'm not sure it's ideal for a romantic escape in the sense that the rooms are quite simple with no particular charm. The bathroom is a bit basic. I was also not convinced by the bar and restaurant and we preferred to go to the local pub, which is a few meters away and a little friendlier. Another issue was the presence of a few bugs. Three spiders in our room and quite a few dead wasps in the hallway. Nothing to disturb our stay, however...

Location was great as we were visiting a venue which was within walking distance.

Considering we had paid a premium price for bed and breakfast at this hotel, it was really disappointing and unacceptable that there was no hot water on the day of our arrival or the following morning.

Everything. Location, style, comfort and atmosphere

Nothing. The only slight improvements that we could think of was to have more sockets for charging the plethora of phones, tablets and watches that many now have. This could be done by replacing the mains sockets with those that also include USB outlets. Secondly tea never tastes right with long life milk. A fridge is provided but with no local shops real milk is not easily available. Would it be possible to offer a quarter pint of milk if requested??
