- “So welcoming and comfortable from the minute you enter. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. Our room, although on the small side was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The shower was great and the supplies toiletries were lovely. The bed was comfy, and there was a hanging rail for clothes and a hairdryer. The USB charging points by the bed were useful too. The bar / breakfast room is great, the brewery themed decor was really well done. Speaking of the breakfast, it was on par if not better than some I've had in 4 or 5 star hotels. The scrambled eggs were THE BEST I've seen on a buffet - light and fluffy unlike the tasteless, watery offering you often get! The staff at breakfast are so accommodating and helpful, and extremely on the ball with clearing tables. The location is good, the road at the front is busy but we couldn't hear anything from our room. The train station and city centre are a 10-15 minute walk away, I'm sure there are buses but we didn't bother. We had travelled by train and arrived hours before check in time and asked to pop our bags in their secure luggage room, but to our surprise were told our room was ready so we were able to freshen up before heading off to explore. We've stayed in York multiple times over the last 8 years, at least once a year and this is by far my favourite place that we have stayed in. I have paid much more to stay in far inferior hotels! (But please don't put the prices up, we want to come back ;-))”

  It was quiet, I was able to relax and the convenience to the airport made it even better! Oh, the front desk agent was so nice, a breath of fresh air and very professional, keep her and give her a raise!!!

  I ask one of the staff for another wash cloth and towel being it was two of us in the room and only one set. At first she said no, but when I told my wife to let the front desk know, she gave a set with an attitude. Was no need to report is, we ultimately got the extra bath set and that's all that mattered.

  The positives were the bed was comfortable and the air conditioner worked well.

  The elevator was broken. The stairwell was a parking lot for dead mini fridges and air conditioners. The room had laminate flooring with large gaps. Someone had drawn a smiley face in purple marker on the floor next to the window. The ceiling over the shower was peeling. We killed two small roaches and a large roach during our 1 night stay.

  Unfortunately the area has a great deal of birds swooping around the outside dining area. I had one land on my shoulder during one visit to the restaraunt and on another visit another bird relieved itself on the front of my dress while I was eating. The waitress said "oh well there are things we just can't control." I found that a little off putting.

  My room was in serious need of repairs. The bathroom had mold around the tub and shower walls. There was a large crack in the ceiling of the bathroom and only one light worked. The tile was lifting, cracked and the grout was missing in numerous places. The wall plate that covers the light switches was broken nearly in half and only half was still in place. For a Holiday Inn it was in very poor shape. My mistake was making the reservation based upon the location. The price was only slightly less than the Hampton Inn next door, and I paid about $70 more for the nite than I should have.
