Breakfast and location were the best parts of the hotel. The breakfast buffet has plenty of hot & cold options. It's located right in downtown with lots to do nearby. We also enjoyed the rooftop bar, great views. Rooms were very clean. Elevators were fast.
Didn't offer a lot of extra amenities, no microwaves available in the whole hotel, also didn't provide makeup remover wipes, qtips, etc. even at the front desk. Furniture & decor in the room was underwhelming, folding tables for a desk & coffee table. But still a very comfortable room.

The rooms were perfect. I had also reserved a room for my mother and she was extremely happy. It was her first time staying at the Red Lion and she and her husband were impressed to have a room on the first floor for easy in and out.
Our stay could not have gone better. The rooms were perfect and we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with a very nice server who helped make the meal fun.

I enjoyed that there was an elevator and that there was enough parking.
We got a non smoking room and the room smelled so much like smoke. The bed sheets did not look clean at all. The bathroom was not clean either.

Location was good.
Had to move rooms as the air conditioner in the original room had a really bad smell permeating from it that affected my son’s asthma. I completed a check out on my phone and marked 11 am as when I would be leaving and housekeeping still knocked on my door at 9:30 am. What was the purpose of doing it if it was going to be ignored?

“So welcoming and comfortable from the minute you enter. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. Our room, although on the small side was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The shower was great and the supplies toiletries were lovely. The bed was comfy, and there was a hanging rail for clothes and a hairdryer. The USB charging points by the bed were useful too. The bar / breakfast room is great, the brewery themed decor was really well done. Speaking of the breakfast, it was on par if not better than some I've had in 4 or 5 star hotels. The scrambled eggs were THE BEST I've seen on a buffet - light and fluffy unlike the tasteless, watery offering you often get! The staff at breakfast are so accommodating and helpful, and extremely on the ball with clearing tables. The location is good, the road at the front is busy but we couldn't hear anything from our room. The train station and city centre are a 10-15 minute walk away, I'm sure there are buses but we didn't bother. We had travelled by train and arrived hours before check in time and asked to pop our bags in their secure luggage room, but to our surprise were told our room was ready so we were able to freshen up before heading off to explore. We've stayed in York multiple times over the last 8 years, at least once a year and this is by far my favourite place that we have stayed in. I have paid much more to stay in far inferior hotels! (But please don't put the prices up, we want to come back ;-))”

“I really enjoyed my stay. The cottages are new, it's clear they were built recently. They are within walking distance of the hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, the plumbing is high-quality, and the beds are comfortable. It's also very nice that there are automatic blinds on the windows, so you can sleep in complete darkness in the morning. Additionally, each cottage has a shared kitchen.”
