- “So welcoming and comfortable from the minute you enter. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. Our room, although on the small side was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The shower was great and the supplies toiletries were lovely. The bed was comfy, and there was a hanging rail for clothes and a hairdryer. The USB charging points by the bed were useful too. The bar / breakfast room is great, the brewery themed decor was really well done. Speaking of the breakfast, it was on par if not better than some I've had in 4 or 5 star hotels. The scrambled eggs were THE BEST I've seen on a buffet - light and fluffy unlike the tasteless, watery offering you often get! The staff at breakfast are so accommodating and helpful, and extremely on the ball with clearing tables. The location is good, the road at the front is busy but we couldn't hear anything from our room. The train station and city centre are a 10-15 minute walk away, I'm sure there are buses but we didn't bother. We had travelled by train and arrived hours before check in time and asked to pop our bags in their secure luggage room, but to our surprise were told our room was ready so we were able to freshen up before heading off to explore. We've stayed in York multiple times over the last 8 years, at least once a year and this is by far my favourite place that we have stayed in. I have paid much more to stay in far inferior hotels! (But please don't put the prices up, we want to come back ;-))”

  The Chateau was a treasure. It was the highlight of our 17 night trip. It was filled with amazing things, old furniture & unusual items. You won't be disappointed. The room was very clean and the bed was wonderful. Breakfast was the standard fare.

  We enjoy the location of this hotel and have stayed here numerous times. This visit was VERY different from all of our other stays.

  We checked in at a later time, about 8:30-9 pm and went directly to our room. We noticed one of the bed comforters was dirty, so we called multiple times to try letting the front desk know. Nobody ever answered the phone, so my husband had to walk to the front desk to notify them. The front desk clerk responded with, "we don't have access to any clean comforters", and handed him a small brown blanket saying that was all they had. We also normally feel secure there, but this time we had a random knock at the door at 1:30am and couldn't see out of the peep hole. I didn't notice any night security around this visit.

  Everything. Of course just like everyone else in the reviews the food is better than going to any buffet for breakfast anywhere.

  The only thing I did not like is during the cocktail hr timeframe the whiskey was the cheapest whiskey I ever tasted in a drink. I asked for the crown but was told that was not on the free drink part.

  No visible signage about elevator services. Had to carry my luggage to 2nd floor. Air conditioning didn’t help much since curtains were too long and absorbed the cold air. Had to put shoes to hold back curtains , so I could feel air. Checking out-receptionist could have been a little friendlier.

  The rooms were dirty, beds were dirty, carpets were snagged and dirty. There was a heater on in the elevator when it was hot as hell outside. Housekeeping was doing laundry on our floor and there must not be proper exhaust in the laundry room because walking down our hallway felt like being in a sauna. We stayed at 8-10 hotels on our long trip and this hotel was by far the worst. Will never stay there again or recommend it to anyone. The pictures are deceiving.
