How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Bathroom is sort of a different room but not a big deal. The climb up here is pretty steep! Id recommend going via the backroad which goes up to the castle, during hot weather...

Honestly I'm surprised that this property has such a high rating. I understand that for this amount of money you cannot expect much, but I always expect cleanliness which is doubtful here. In the bathroom there was a used towel hanging on the hook, used tissue on the shelf. The shower cabin and shower head needs to be repaired, the water is leaking everywhere. Maybe I'm spoiled by the genuine hospitality I experienced while travelling across Albania, because here I didn't feel welcomed. The young gentleman who greeted me needs to learn it, or change the profession. You need to be aware that there is no parking nearby. You must leave the car in a parking lot 11 min walk away (not 7 like the host said) and pay 5 EUR (not 4 like the host said) so this was also disappointing.

Verified reviewMy room was big, comfortable and had an incredible view. The guesthouse is in one of those old Ottoman houses, high in the Mangalem quarter.
During my whole stay, I had no contact at all with the host, only with the housekeeper and the neighbour. There is no breakfast option. The whole neighborhood is made of steep narrow alleys that are not accessible by car. People with mobility issues and/or that cannot, or simply don't want to, carry their own luggage up and down the hill should find another place to stay Cash only.

Verified reviewTo Kotor is about a 15/20 Min. walk but on the other hand one has the view across the bay which is nice in the night time. Mr Bosko was very helpful to carry the suitcases upstairs and he was a really helpful and friendly host.

The room is not well insulated , so the room was cold at night (February). The two beds were combined to make one and that was not comfortable.

Verified reviewNice clean, cosy room, in an old traditional Berat house high up in the old town, with amazing views over the city, river and mountains. Just five minute walk down to the river and restaurants. A small shared kitchen area outside the room was useful. The owner and his family were very friendly and welcoming. Very easy communication by WhatsApp. Very good value for the price.

Verified reviewThe staff were amazing! They kept constant communication with me checking when I’ll be arriving, making sure to remind me to drive safely as it was night time, and also helped with several places to park and find the place. Internet worked well and the room was pre-heated ready for me. It’s quite a far distance walk up the old town and away from any roads, but the night views, as well as sunrise views on the balcony are well worth it. I’d definitely recommend staying here!!
Cash only payment as opposed to being done via Booking.com, but that would be the only negative for me.
