The location is very central, the staff is very helpful, they speak English. The room I had was very small, with very little sunlight (on the 3rd floor, the window on the inner courtyard), and a bit old. But the barthroom had a tub and was nice and clean.

The hotel is a historical landmark, and the cheaper rooms are a bit outdated in decor. But the beds and bathrooms were comfy and everything is clean, so it's not a big deal. Although I speak Spanish, the staff -except for the bar/restaurant and spa staff- wasn't very friendly at all which was a bit disappointing. It's worth paying in USD or pesos, as the credit card fees are insane (this is not only in the Castelar hotel, but a general thing in Argentina unfortunately...however, the credit card fees added in the Castelar hotel were the highest we had ever encountered, a whopping 21 %!!!)

The general ambiance in the hotel is very nice, very 'old world' and it's interesting to read up about the hotel's history. Lots of locals come here for afternoon churro's and hot chocolate. It's centrally located, easy to walk around and with subway station Lima (line A) right in front of the door. After a long day walking around, the free spa center with steambath and sauna (jacuzzi & massage payable options) is pure bliss.

The hotel is over 100 years old and it could do with a face lift without removing the original glamorous features.

The willingness of the staff to offer us a choice of rooms, as we explained we had a lot of luggage and needed a larger room. The spa facilities were excellent although I had to pay an extra £10 for the use of the jacuzzi. However it was well worth it. The breakfast was included in the price which made the hotel overall very good value for money.

Old, outdated, rooms falling apart, toilet seat was broken, breakfast was very basic, staff not very personable. Not worth the price they charge to stay there.

The manager found it necessary to insult me while speaking with an employee and thinking I wouldnt understand. Just because they made a mistake and I kept them to it (since the mistake was in my favor).

The hotel has a very central location right next to a metro station. In my case the price-quality was super, But for the normal going rate, it is poor.

The hotel needs a maintenance, as paint the wall and clean the carpet (mainly due to “SPA” name) . Other point is information from reception, they told me that there isn’t cab in New Year celebration ( however you can take cabs all the night)

The location is good if you’ll use the public transport (mainly subway)

For me every thing was ok. It’s an old hotel so don’t expect 5 or 6 stars.

Unfortunately our luggage was lost in transit and during our four night stay the staff went out of their way to help us by phoning the Airlines numerous time. They were very sympathetic towards us. We would stay there again.

Very old and worn carpets, wall coverings, wood finishes, etc.

Fantastic central location. Good restaurants and sights within walking distance. Shower worked well--only one on trip that did. Beds somewhat lumpy. Had one very helpful assistant at front desk, one somewhat helpful, and others who seemed to hate their jobs. Lobby was old fashioned, but impressive.

In addition to an interesting historical context, this refined hotel meets excellent conditions to be a well chosen accommodation to stay in the centre of Buenos Aires. Old-time rooms very well maintained, a stylish entrance hall as well as its magnificent circular main staircase, together with the plentiful buffet breakfast held every morning in the same space which by night becomes one of the "notable bars and cafes" in the city, with live music, do part of the magic. The rest is in the hands of the people who kindly take care of it all. Though not a budget hotel, the Castelar very frequently becomes an affordable option through the offers that Booking hands over to us, happy users... :)

We had a small room, but it was much smaller than expected. They gave us one hanger. The air conditioner rattled all night long, difficult to get a good sleep. The room was very "tired".

The location was next to the metro, very useful. Breakfast was good. Few staff had good command of English, but the one we could communicate with was helpful.

Rooms are shabby. Air conditioning did not work. Asked for an iron to press my clothes since I was traveling for business. Was told they did not have any as a matter of policy (fire hazard?). No housekeeping staff in evening. Front desk guy works as maintenance person. It took more than two hours for this person to decide to move me from a room where air conditioning not worked to a different room at 11:30 PM. Had to move all my belongings at that time.
