Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaNo kettle and tea/coffee making utensils in the room. There is however a nice cafe downstairs.
Staff were friendly. The location was excellent and the room was warm, cosy, comfortable and clean. I travelled with my dog and the hotel and cafe has a very dog friendly attitude. The breakfast buffet was well stocked.

Great location in the middle of town and we could walk to the train station and shops. I enjoyed the traditional look and feel of the property.

MaltaThe room was a bit cold, at night only. We would have loved a small kettle and a cup or 2 for our late evening tea.
Breakfast was very good, varied, and fresh. Apple strudel and coffee were fantastic. The room was good size but a bit cold at night. Shower linen and towels good. Shower hair and body wash too small, no glasses/cup provided. The location is top, Parking a bit tight but was very useful (partly sheltered) and on-premises - it was raining. Very courteous staff. Melk is a lovely, old, and well-kept small village.

Romania... it was a windy night and after a long trip in december.... we would like the room to be a little bit warmer... but it doesn't mean it was cold inside... just a personal feeling
they say people make the difference and this is what it is about here! All the staff is more than pleasant! They are so warm and they are doing all they can to make you feel spoiled. Very good dinner and breakfast too! They are some kind of independent manufacturer... roasted coffee locally is an example! BUT the cakes!!! Definitely the cakes are one of the best in the region!

AustriaThe restaurant that is connected to the hotel is outdated. As the reception area for the hotel it does not give the best impression.
The rooms are spacious and newly renovated. The location is perfect and right in the center of the small town. The breakfast was very nice and the staff were pleasant.

AustraliaNo lift, but it's an old building and only has two levels - it's a small price to pay for staying in a place with character - and the staff helped us with our bags!
A charming hotel in the perfect location in a perfect little town. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, the breakfast very good and the staff friendly and helpful. Loved it!

AustriaAll good. Nothing to complain at all!
A wonderful spot to stay in Melk and singularly quaint to boot. You have a creaking old staircase into large rooms either overlooking the pretty town square of up the the Stift. The cafe where you have breakfast is a dainty place with its red velvet sofa seats. Breakfast was good!

AustraliaWonderful small hotel under the imposing gaze of Stift Melk. Sitting in the heart of Melk, Madar Café has comfortable rooms, ours faced the Abbey, not a big room but this is expected from an old building like this. We slept well on a very comfortable bed, it was quiet as well. Breakfast in the restaurant was nice, cold selections with plenty of options. I can recommend this to anyone.

South AfricaOur only 2 room issues are: 1. no air con for those hectically hot days. 2. The noise coming from everything going on below the room. There is a driveway access to the building found at the rear. Late at night, at sleeping time, the noise varied between loud talking, car noise, kitchen noises. Otherwise our stay was marvelous. Huge thanks.
So we were in room 7 at the very top of the stairs. The room is at the back of the building and the windows look out to see the Abbey, which is fabulous to see. The room is spacious enough, good bathroom facilities too.
