How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewHotel is beautifully designed, the rooms are dark and romantic and it's right on Salamanca for easy access to the city (and the markets on a saturday morning of course). Check in was an easy process, staff very friendly and helpful
The TV in the room is a smart TV however the hotel has blocked all smart features, and access to the HDMI port, you can only watch their selection of free to air channels. We could not watch our own media, nor could we get the AFL game that we wanted to watch (it wasn't on free to air but we have subscriptions to Kayo and Foxtel so just needed to sign in on the TV) so we had to stream on our phone which was incredibly disappointing considering we have had access to smart TV's at every other hotel and air bnb on our trip, even tiny places in small country towns had access. It was a baffling decision. Also wish they had a gym and/or sauna in the hotel

Verified reviewGreat design and excellent attention to detail. Location at Salamanca is great. Great Tasmanian furniture and design. Friendly, welcoming by and helpful staff, and a welcome apple! Heated bathroom floor and Australian made soaps.
There was so much to like, the only thing which could have been better were the pillows. Good but not great.

Verified reviewI love the mood of Moss Hotel. It’s classy without being pretentious. We love that everything is so handy - including live music venues, beautiful handcrafts and great cafes all in easy walking distance. This was our second stay and we haven’t exhausted all the options of things to do locally. We’ll be back!

Verified reviewUnbeatable location. Loved being in the Salamanca area with all the bars and restaurants. Easily accessible to different parts of Hobart. The room was surprisingly soundproof and very comfortable. The bed and pillows were a luxury. Loved the deep soak bath and heated floors. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming and allowed us to store bags on early arrival and late departure for the airport. Would not hesitate to come back and stay here again.
Only feedback is wanting a bit more storage for hanging clothes and clothes. There is one cupboard with shelves and a hanging rack but needed more hangers and maybe some drawers especially for a longer stay

Verified reviewUpgraded ourselves to a Grove Room, which was lovely. Comfy King Bed, lovely large window onto Salamanca Place with an aspect towards Franklin Wharf and a bath, which was well-used!
While there are lots of eating alternatives on the doorstep, I always welcome some ability to eat on site in a hotel.

Verified reviewIt had such a beautiful interior and the location was amazing.
The room we stayed in was so noisy, we could hear conversations from outside without the window open. We heard a couple next door having sex. The room was very warm. The bed was very uncomfortable and we both rolled into the middle.

Verified reviewLocation and the polite, competent young girls at reception. Very welcoming and high quality hospitality
Central AC didn't work well in the room. Couldn't get the settings to work, then it would just turn off or it would randomly move to heat. Got home after dinner at 11pm it was 29 degrees, couldn't fix it because the AC unit was shit. The one in the bathroom never worked. Same issue the next arvo, called reception and an old battleaxe of a babyboomer came up, couldn't get it to work for 10minites and made it out like it was our fault for not calling reception at 11pm the night before. That response is dogshit. Not only did we come back to a room which was 29degrees (obviously staff couldn't fix it either), but she couldn't do it and passed it off as our problem. THEN she said we had turned it on heat (we hadn't. It was 21 on cool and the settings changed middle of the night). Room 50. These rooms aren't worth $400 a night when you can't breathe at night, then get told it's because you can't use the AC properly. Sure, we like avocado on toast, but you can't use touch screens. When your AC doesn't work, and you can't use a phone properly, don't blame guests. Just apologies next time. Completely useless
