How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewThe unit is centrally located, walking distance to everything, yet quiet enough to get a good night’s rest. The street in front can be busy since there’s a public parking lot, but that actually made the area feel safe. The apartment itself is very spacious, with a large living and dining area. The two bedrooms are on the smaller side in my opinion, as it was a bit tricky to keep our suitcases open without taking up walking space. That said, the overall comfort was good, the temperature at night was pleasant, and although we were a little concerned about opening the windows because of mosquitoes, we were relieved that it was not an issue at all.
The apartment is reached by two flights of very narrow stairs, so carrying luggage up and down can be quite challenging unless you are physically fit. The oven was dusty and didn’t function properly, so we weren’t able to heat food and ended up having salads most evenings. One of the main reasons we chose this unit was for the washing machine and dryer, but unfortunately the dryer’s start button was missing and the washing machine leaked, so we couldn’t use either. A cleaner shower curtain would be appreciated. Additionally, we were not informed that we needed to register our vehicle, which is required by local regulations, something that surprised the administrator at the tourist information center. That said, the landlady is very soft-spoken and hardworking, and she personally cleans the units with her daughter. She also came to check on the appliances and made a kind offer to make it up to us, which we appreciated. Overall, while there were a few practical challenges, her attentiveness and dedication were evident.

Verified reviewEverything has been straight forward and easy from the start. Nele was a wonderful host, great communication and couldn't be anymore helpful.
The road outside could get a little noisy late at night, even with windows closed. Just locals/tourists having fun but there was some loud music and shouting in the early hours.

Verified reviewThis studio apartment was modern, clean and comfortable to stay in. Location wise it was a perfect base to explore Ghent from. Host was also very responsive and welcoming. Highly recommended.
Walls are a bit thin so you can hear talking from the hallway or other rooms (was only a minor issue as we had some bad luck with a fussy baby as a neighbour for a few nights). Bringing earplugs will easily solve this.

Verified reviewExcellent location close to the tourist district of Ghent. The apartment was clean and comfortable. It is a top floor penthouse so it does require three flights of steep stairs. Air conditioning was helpful and it kept the flat cool.
More towels would have been helpful. Kleenex, conditioner and paper towel were not available in the unit.

Verified reviewLocation, size, cleanliness. Two toilets.
Washer/dryer were unavailable, two flights of narrow stairs were difficult for ladies with heavy cases, we expected a third bed but only two were present. The sofa made for a very comfortable third bed though.

Verified reviewWell located. Spacious penthouse for two people. Very comfortable.
One improvement would be the addition of a dresser for clothing. Without it one has to either hang up most of your clothes or keep getting them out of your suitcase. Stairs are narrow and are winder treads. No lift so you will need to be fit enough to carry your luggage to the third floor.

Verified reviewClose to the center of town, comfortable with all the facilities we needed. Communication with the owners was great.
As it was very hot while we were there, a fan would have been good.

Verified reviewLoved the location; we could just walk into Korenmarkt and visit all the lovely spots nearby on foot! Lots of space in the apartment too. Comfy beds and nice bathrooms.
It did get a bit noisy outside late at night - easily remedied with just shutting the window completely though!

Verified reviewvery comfortable studio with good facilities, plenty of room and really well located for central Ghent. An easy short walk into the centre and literally around the corner from the Friday market square (plenty of bars there and good cake stalls on a Friday). Nele, the host, was friendly and welcoming and helpful with all our questions (including about recycling). A couple of small supermarkets nearby with a larger one in the centre that's within walking distance.
we had the one of the ground floor studios so there was some noise at street level but only on the Friday night which seemed to attract more passing foot traffic than any of the other nights we stayed. With the windows closed, it was not a big issue but with windows open it could be annoying. That said, we would certainly not let that discourage anyone from staying.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at this apartment! The location is great, close to everything yet quiet and peaceful. The owner was very nice and welcoming, making check-in easy and offering helpful tips about the area. The apartment itself is beautiful and spacious, with plenty of room to relax and feel at home. One of the highlights was the extraordinarily large terrace — perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need, which made it easy to cook and enjoy meals at home. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
