The food could be better quality and more versatile.

Excellent location in the middle of old pine woods, skiing facilities and wonderful castle of former Bulgarian dynasty named "Carska Bistrica". At the altitude from about 1300 to 2400 m asl, it is good for walking amid the pines and skiing day and night. A lot of neighboring wonderful hotels and eating facilities. A perfect view from the terrace to the mountain. Olympic size swimming pool with hot water, hot area with Turkish bath and sauna and many more ( shops, pharmacy, medical help...)

The food was absolutely awful, even though we had paid for half board, we ended up spending a fortune eating out as the food was so bad. The beds were so uncomfortable and sheets were threadbare, the bath and shower leaked and there was a terrible smell that came from the toilet. The staff were unfriendly and not very accommodating. The room that we were in was at the front of the property and opposite J's night we were kept awake by the noise coming from the bar. The walls in the rooms are alos paper thin and i really enjoyed listening to the man next door having a telephone conversation with his partner explaining how his kindle had broken on the plane...

Only issue is they do not let you leave you skis in the boot room if you have not hired directly from the hotel, meaning we had to take our skis and boots up to our room every day, and you get shouted at if you walk through the hotel in your ski boots. If you don’t want us taking ski gear through the hotel, provide a boot room!

Fantastic value for money. Hotel is slightly dated but clean with excellent facilities to add another dimension to the holiday when you are not Skiing. Such as a well equipt and modern spa, pool and table tennis tables, shooting etc.

The hotel is old, you go knowing this. The staff could be friendlier, a smile now and then would be nice. Elevators have chronic problems. There was a water shortage for 40 hours where the hotel has not been able to deal with it promptly or provide any information about it. The shortage was accross the town except for a few other hotels who actually invested in renewing their piping.

Value for money; you get what you pay for nothing more.

Where do I start. Burst water main in local area meant the hotel was without water from about 1pm on the day of our arrival - completely out of the hotel’s control. However - no information for guests; no note to your room, email, sign up at reception to offer an alternative to shower, use a toilet, wash your hands or even brush your teeth. It was like this for well over 24 hours, so not able to even have a chance wash. Staff were pretty rude and short with hotel guests. We forgot our cards for the spa and rather than accept our room key as evidence we were guests; they forced us to go back up 4 floors and back to our room to get these pieces of plastic. Breakfast was inedible - absolutely disgusting!

only positive is the Spa isn’t too bad!

The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, particularly at the ski depot (with the exception of a receptionist who let us store our luggage in the back room.) . If you have not hired your skis from the hotel you cannot store them anywhere at the hotel as you are not allowed to take them to your room.

The hotel was clean and warm with good views. Good location near to the Gondola and Ski hire.

The curtains did not fully block out the light from outside . The sound proofing of the windows did not block out the outside noise very well. Lastly the cockroach found in the bedroom area did not have much fun flying across the room by my girlfriend.

I loved the view of the slopes and mountain area, I liked the selection of breakfast and dinner choices especially the banana cake puddings! I liked the close proximity to amenities, staff were attentive and kept the food hall area clean and tidy using gloves when handling food. There never seemed to be a lack of food, the bedroom was spacious.

Inside of the rooms and the hotel itself was quite old. The elevators, for example, seems to be working barely. A lot of noise coming from all over the walls. There is not enough noise insulation, perhaps there are none.

Room scenery from the window was beautiful. Also, Room temperature was steady and at an excellent celsius degree! We never felt cold or overheated, just perfect! As for another plus, the prices are reasonable.

Everything. Last year in the same season we stayed in the hotel Festa Chamkoria and it was much better in the sense of service, accomodation, staff. First of all this year we came with 2 small kinds. Before coming I wrote in the property that we will come with kids and asked how much it will cost for extra bed for each of them as they are 4 and 6 y/o. They replied that extra bed will cost 10 euros per night. When we came in the hotel they started to say that the kids after 2 can stay in the hotel o pay base. We asked why if on their web site it it mentioned that the kinds after 5 to 12 has to be paid 50% of accomodation. They started to argue on that. And they started to talk in such a way as I`m not a client but I came to ask them for money from outside. Than we checked in and the rooms and the hotel it self we didn`t like at all as it was old and bad maintaned. For this money u can get much better option or for the same u can pay less in other hotels near by. Swimming pool was too cold so the kids could swim. When we came for breakfast there was no even oat porridge for kids and on dinner the waiter asked us to pay for tea, coffee and pastries which is non-sense as in all the hotels it`s always included in the cost. There was non a/c in the room and the sun in the 2-nd half of the day was shining directly in the huge windows, it was hot like hell in the room. It reminded me the times of old USSR when the staff didn`t pay attention to the reputation and was behaving the same with clients. As well as the hotels were like this Samokov. Will never come back there again and will never advise it to anyone.

Location is good if u come with small kids as they can`t walk too much as all the restaurants are located near by the hotel area.

The exterior of the hotel is a disaster - no refurbishing since the late 1980's (late Soviet times). Spa center had turned off the machinery for the Turkish bath and the coolers for the cool pools, but denied they did so. Probably because I arrived a bit late in the day - saving on electricity??? No air conditioning, not an issue during summer as this is in the mountains, but I imagine this could be a problem in spring/fall. Breakfast ends too early for late sleepers.

Room interiors are OK for this price - large rooms, new furniture, comfortable beds, decent bathroom (although the carpeting needs changing). I like the spa and visit it regularly, and the pool is really good. When priced in the economy range, this hotel is worth it.

Only one thing: breakfast. It's a pity that breakfast is so below par in this hotel. Even though there is numerous personnel going around, the food seems to have been put there from the early morning and that's it. No replacements; Burnt eggs. Plastic cups far from the juice machine. And by the way, not the best juice in the machine. Also not the best coffee from the coffee machines. Not much variety in breakfast. Pity, really.

Great place to stay in Borovets! To be clear: of course, it's a hotel from the old times, but I guess you know that already and you should take that as a part of its charm. Other than that, it's a hotel that has everything: spa treatments, pool, saunas etc., doctor, hairdresser, dentist (!), restaurants, bars, pharmacy, mini market, play room, bowling, gym, parking space. Great view from the balcony. Plus it's located exactly where the van that brings you from Samokov stops. And 50m from the gondola lift to Yastrebets peak (2.369m), from which you can go on to climb Musala peak, the highest in the Balkans. P.S. In our room in the 8th floor, there was even a little radio under the bedside table (I guess from the Communistic time, with just 4 channels), that was though connected to speakers in the bathroom and the toilet! We really enjoyed that :-)

I think a high level hotel should always promote also the environmentally friendly side of its management: avoid plastic cups, avoid resources waste, e.g. food waste, ask guests if it is necessary to change towels or not... such small gestures are already standard in most 5* hotels and can easily be implemented, reducing also costs

Food... Evening meals not the best but a reasonable selection. Breakfast: eggs (fried and scrambled), bacon (well similar), mushrooms, beans etc. Selection of cereals and fruit. Again a reasonable standard.

As described. Good services just needs a bit of modernisation. Has everything you need from a pool, restaurant, ski hire, large rooms, club, close to the slopes and mountain ski lift. Close to the nightlife but not so close your kept up all night. Plus Spa facilities were used and value for money. The buffet at breakfast & dinner was uninspiring though we didn't starve but you may struggle for meat if you don't eat pork! The exterior of the hotel is wooden & looks very old & tired but once inside the hotel is clean and met our needs for a base for the week.

Bedroom was big enough with plenty of room for ski clothing and really comfortable beds. The sofa bed became a comfy third bed. Rooms were warm, sometimes too warm, but radiator was thermostatically controlled and the balcony door could be opened for refreshing cool air if required. Fridge was big enough for drinks. (We visited Hotel Rila & viewed a studio room - don't be fooled by their plush reception as that bedroom was cramped by comparison.) Hotel Samokov has lots of lifts, with ski storage & ski school underneath the Reception. All staff were English speaking & helpful. Hotel has a resident Dr, Dentist, supermarket & lots of facilities. A great base for a family ski holiday, just over the road from the Gondola. Panorama restaurant excellent menu & great value - cheaper than inferior quality & range at tacky places in the main resort area.

Been given an unmade bedroom when we arrived at 3am on the first day and beingl told no other rooms available. After phoning again to say sofa bed was broken we were then given a 3 bed room that was made up. Didn't rally need that after a longl journey but goes to show it depends who you talk to!

Great location to slopes and local shops, bars and restaurants.

Miserable staff, especially reception! Cigarette smoke filling room through bathroom vents from other rooms despite signs & warnings of fines!! Rooms seriously dated & beyond basic.

Location is right next to the gondola. Plenty of seating areas. Shops & pharmacy onsite. Reasonable price. Views from room.

    - Staff needs to cheer up - They wont let you check in before 2pm; not even at 1:59 !! - Hot water is a problem, needed to go to the pool to actually take a hot shower - Rooms overlooking the main street gets noise from the bars - Facilities are old and lifts are terrible (avoid using the far right one) - A kettle in the room would have been nice

    - Rates are reasonable, but you get what you paid for - Just opposite the main gondol lift to the highest slopes - 500m walk from the training slopes - Facilities are old but they have enough to keep you occupied, closed 25m pool, sauna, steam room, bowling alley, BBgun shooting range, small arcade, pool and pingpong tables, couple of art activities for smaller children (mostly paid activities) - There is no minibar bar but there is a small fridge to use

Room was ok but bathroom and bath where well below the standard I would have expected. Floor flooded every time you had a shower. Shower floor felt like you would fall through it. Breakfast was ok but the juice drinks would never work which was very annoying.

I got ripped of by some locals that tried to help me to clean my car full of snow I fell treattened by them with 50 lv local currency very scary. its was a bunch of 6 guys. if you are guest of the hotel you should not pay for sauna or steam bath. The otel needs a good renovation of ambience , rooms and lobby area. Breakfast same choice quite busy and boring

the ski facilities .Samokov ski school simple the best our ski teacher VESKO DRAGANOV simply the best. massage at the spa hotel.

The hotel staff were unhelpful and miserable, the breakfast was disgusting, rooms basic dirty and unclean and stank of smoke. My children and i developed skin rash from washing in dirty water which came from the taps daily the hotel said it was a resort problem yet hotel rila and other hotels bars and restaurants had clean water. Would not recommend anyone to stay here - see picture attached of water. I also took several videos from both rooms I booked. Children had dioreah after eating breakfast 2 days. Eggs were green , buffet breakfast cold, sausages blown

Staff generally and especially the reception staff bring the place down, don't greet you with a smile, English not widely spoken, unable to provide accurate info. Evening meal very much like school dinners. Take earplugs as room walls very very thin. Room security poor with flimsy, poorly locking doors. On-site travel agency very expensive. for transfers and over-priced tours.

Excellent location. Nice views from 6th floor. Nice shower over bath. Good spread to choose from at breakfast. A big hotel with quite a few facilities. Local busses to/from Sofia (Samokov then Sofia) every half hour and costs 7 Lev, passing within 2 km of the airport. Okay for a basic hotel as a base for a week if you go with the right expectations and pay bottom dollar.

Breakfast could be better, most products are cheap, no real coffee, no fresh juice; the hotel is clean, however a lot of the facilities have not been touched in years and offer sort of a time travel to a previous era
