My room was at the second floor and windows overlooked the street so it wasn’t possible to sleep at all. All night was very noisy on the street: loud music, scream and songs of local people. Full trash. Also in my room I found 2 dead cockroaches. 2 electrical outlets near the bed we’re not working. It wasn’t convinient to charge and use my phone near the door.

Highly recommended - very good room space to organise your bags - unlike other hotels in this area

    Very Good! No problems!

Breakfast is good. Pudim is delicious and very fresh fresh fruit. It is a busy hotel and the staff are excellent, efficient and friendly. The area of República is edgy at night but NOT dangerous, as other travellers seem to suggest. Be streetwise and understand how the area works. PLEASE do NOT be intimidated, you will be fine if you can relate to normal big city precautions, if not you should try to learn how to travel in a city! Those people who write negative reports should stay at home and not be part of international city travelling. The hotel is central to everything and is perfect for business and leisure travel.

Clean, well run older hotel with friendly, helpful staff near just steps from Praça da República and Viaduto Santa Ifigênia. Hotel Columbia is situated in a cluster of small hotels catering primarily to Brazilian travellers. There are churrascarias and other local restaurants and bars nearby as well as plentiful street food. The neighbourhood is safe and walkable, even at night with a strong police presence.
