How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Room was very hot and noisy. No ac or fan - had a fan 1 night but it disappeared in the morning.

Verified reviewCool colonial building with lots of character. Spacious private room, and lots of communal space including a cool little patio in front. Bang in Largo da Ordem (historical area). Security good.
Staff friendly but not very accomodating: when we arrived at 2.15pm we were told we could not check-in until 3pm, even though the room was clearly ready. Had to ask for towels and a key (even though we had a private room). LOTs of street noise! And because no fan/ac, you have to leave the windows open and make it even worse. Also, the area can feel sketchy - lots of homeless, people on drugs etc.
Hi Robin. I´m sorry to hear about your experience with us. About the check in, you have this information here, check in is from 3pm indeed. Please note that our team has a whole system, timing and tasks to follow and finish in order to check our guests in before time(3pm). We also have the information here at booking.com that we are in the center of the city which allows you to be close and to have very easy access to everything but as well as the perks we have the downside that you mentioned. All the windows face the outside/street which means a bit of noise from it, yes. Also we are very sorry for not being able to look after the homeless people that surround the center of Curitiba. We do our best to keep the hostel clean and tidy though. ;) Best regards, HMTeam

Verified reviewThe location closed to the centre. The staff are nice and helpful. The room is comfortable and clean. Bathroom is also clean. Well equipped kitchen.
The room is just next to the street, sometimes it is noisy, better to have ear plugs.

Verified review+ Staff friendly with good recommendations + Room was large with lots of space + Shower was hot and good pressure
- Bathroom smelt bad - Kitchen could be better equipped - Location was okay. Abit rough as close to the cathedral where there are alot of homeless people. - Checkout was 12pm which was good and you can use the facilities for free until 4pm. Any later than 4pm there is a fee. We stored our bags there until our night bus which was at 10pm which there is no fee for. However when we went back to get our bags it did feel abit unfriendly and they wanted us gone immediately (we were waiting for an uber to the bus station).

Verified reviewThis is a great little hostel in the heart of Curitiba and good quality for the price. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and there are many volunteers so there's always somebody on hand if you need them. The common area and kitchen felt nice and spacious and airy and the kitchen is well stocked with utensils and facilities for cooking. The bed was a little firm but it didn't ruin my stay, the bathroom is modern, clean and spacious the shower gets nice and hot!
The only issue I had is that there was a little bit of mould in the shower, and I have a mould allergy so it affected me quite badly, but if that's not an issue for you you're probably fine! I'm sure it's something they can fix anyway.

Verified reviewIn three months of traveling in Brazil I have not slept in bed that was so comfortable. The dorm had its own private bathroom which I loved! Everything was so clean. It has a great shared kitchen. On top of that all of the staff there were amazing so sweet, welcoming and avaliable for any questions I had. I would definitely recommend this hostel to everyone!

Verified reviewPrime location, walking distance to the historical center, and other attractions. Near supermarkets and other commerce. The house is beautiful, very spacious with a great open kitchen, a dining area, a tv room and a terrace. It was also very clean in the common areas. The staff was always polite and willing to help.
The cold water knob from the shower in my room was broken, so I started using the showers downstairs but one of them also had an issue with the cold water. The bathrooms, although they looked clean, had this weird moldy smell. The bed’s mattress was a bit on the hard side.

Verified reviewWas clean, location was good
Liked most of it, but Vinicius, a volunteer there, literally expelled me and told me to go away because I had a bus at 6am, and I went there to get my stuff at 4am and just stay for an hour or so in the living room without really using any of their facilities besides maybe the bathroom. Can’t really say they are wrong since I didn’t have a reservation for that night, but can say it’s the first hostel out of the 200+ I’ve stayed within 13 years or so of traveling that doesn’t let you stay longer in the common areas while you wait for transportation and will actually expel you
