Poor and would not stay at this hotel again.
    • Leisure trip

    • Stayed 4 nights

Room was not ready upon check-in and we requested an early check in. Pillows were the worse ever. Bath tub was so slippery I feared falling; had to put a towel in the bottom for shower. The TV stations available was the poorest of any international hotel I've stayed in. Lack of hotel personnel that spoke English. Club on the 9th floor never had still water out; had to ask every time. The rooftop bar was not open because of special event, and the food and drinks available were very limited & expensive; no wine. So could not really enjoy the pool without a bar. Our room key would stop working at two of three elevators. Had to get new keys.

Front Desk staff had a volleyball available for us to use on the beach. Lobby Bar had a great chicken dinner and good TV viewing of the football playoff game.

This does not deserve to be a JW Marriott property. It is old and dated with poor quality of rooms and a small bathroom with a slippery tub for showering, a small window overlooking the ocean and a rather limited club lounge. Considering the quality of infrastructure it was exorbitantly priced.

This is a very old and dated property with small rooms and small windows overlooking the ocean. The bathroom is very small and outdated with a slippery tub for taking a shower. The picture of the hotel on booking.com is misleading as it appears that the hotel has a private beach, though that is not the case and there is a very busy large road between the hotel and the beach. The staff is efficient but do not go out of their way to be helpful. There is a price tag on every additional service that they provide, something we have not encountered in our wide travels around the world, where usually some frills come even without asking. The price tag is quite high considering the quality of the property. It does not appear to deserve the tag of JW Marriott, where one expects significantly better. The club lounge also has very limited services.

    The location is very good

Best Hotel Service I have had in years!

The downfall is the location. I don't mean that in terms of proximity. If you have never been to Rio, the location is good since you can walk or take an Uber to Ipanema and Leblon. I'm not a fan of the Copacabana beach in itself, but the hotel does make up for it in service. I've stayed at hotels in Ipanema in the past and the upkeep and hospitality of the JW Marriott has been the best by far!

This property definitely exceeded my expectations. I attribute this to the EXCELLENT service provided from the time you check in, restaurant staff, cleaning personnel, beach attendants... I cannot say enough about each and every one of the people we came into contact with. The cook at breakfast remembered what we liked to eat and treated us to special options every morning. The front desk was able to provide us with a better room upon checkin. The cleaning crew was polite and even learning to speak English. The gym had above average equipment in comparison to other hotel gyms and a great instructor that was not only knowledgeable, but also very kind. You can use Uber to most places at very reasonable prices.

Staff, although all nice and tried to do their best, were badly managed, so very little worked well. General manager took absolutely no interest in rectifying problems, which was achieved by duty managers.. Rates as a 3 star hotel as lacked a proper restaurant( closed last year). Bar in the lobby was badly designed and rooms were in dire need of being refurbished . Common parts carpet smells were not acceptable, apparently being charged.. Management needs to spend some money as I believe privately owned and not really what you expect from the Marriot deluxe brand.. won't go back..

The position was good added with a bar terrace on the top floor and in the middle of Copacabana..

Hotel room had thin walls. I could hear people in the room next to me talking all the time, and hall way conversations. When the door down the hall closed, the bed headboard vibrated. I had the choice to stay at the Meridian Hotel, Belmont Copacabana or the Fasano hotels. All high standard hotels, but choose the jw Marriott for the Marriott Rewards, only to find out after my stay that Marriott does not honor stays with reward points reservations not booked through the Marriott reservation center. This is my last stay with jw Marriott.

Cons like having a room with one window, which faced the lobby/common area, meaning no chance of natural daylight, or of what was going on outside of the hotel, meaning you had a cave like room and unless you fancy doing a peepshow to rest of the hotel guests you were forced to having the curtains covering the window. Despite this I still had to pay normal rate, which is high as it is. The building lacks charm, and location wise you're better of other places unless you want to be dead center tourist land.

Pros like breakfast, bed and top floor facilities with gym, terrace etc.

    1) The air conditioning was not able to get rid of the humidity in the room. 2) No in room free internet for the price you have to pay to sleep there and no breakfast for a 300$+/night room.

    1) The Location (Shops, metro, Beach, restaurants) 2) The Bed 3) The fact that there is a full shower service on the top of the building so you can enjoy the beach all day and fly out at night fresh!

Room was very clean but housekeeping would always forget some wash clothes. Also cars that hotel contracted with were very expensive compared with local cabs.

Great location with nice beach right accross the street, awesome roof top pool with amazing views! Staff was super friendly and always willing to help!

The common areas were very cold. It was difficult to have such extreme temperature transitions. -I can't think of anything!!!

The executive lounge team is excellent. They anticipate needs and remember your name and likes/dislikes. They make business travelers feel at home and well taken care of. Vanessa at the spa is an excellent masseuse. I arrived stiff and in pain after a terrible hotel stay elsewhere and she got me back on my feet so I could work the next day.

    - Having to share the breakfast with little crawling creatures. - Breakfast room - Late check-in - Unfriendly staff - Except the location we really did not like this hotel. We will try to avoid Marriott in future. Very poor value for money!

We had terrible experiences. 1. We checked in early in the morning , we had aggreed to ay USD 70.00 per nite for a seawview room. When we went to our room and tried to get sleep, WE FIND OUT THAT UPSTAIRS FLOORS R IN CONSTRUCTION, AND THE ROOMS BEING DEMOLISHED.We complained and changed our pre reserved room. If u have a construction at that time, you have to tell the quests about it. If I am paying the double, triple amount for a nites stay and staying in Marriott; I should get what I pay for with complete service. 2. we check with concierge what taxis will charge and then go out. When we went out to ask for taxi-someone approached us-in front of the hotel entrance, having a chat with Marriott personnel-thinking that he is also the hotel personnel. Do u need a taxi sir-He approached outside, got in a car, and picked us up him as a driver. On the way to our destination -HE ASKS US IF WE NEED TO SEE AROUND -HE GIVES US HIS CARD-AND CHARGES US MORE THAN DOUBLE THE AMOUNT WE WERE TOLD. Immediately we complained to the concierge- saying that this is highway robbery-how can they let under Marriott roof for something like this happen etc.etc.etc. 3. At check out we have brought these to their attention; THEY HAVE APOLOGIZED ETC ETC. AND THEY HAVE MADE % 50 DISCOUNT ON OUR LAST NTES STAY, AND CONFIRMED TO US THAT OUR TOTAL BILL WILL BE 1.947,57 BRL. I HAVE AN INVOICE IN MY HAND FOR THIS AMOUNT. AT THE END I WAS CHARGED 2.591,69 BRL. i have written them with the proof of our departure bill for 4 times, including to JW Rio, and Marriott Brasil. They have not rectified and credited my credit card for the difference. It is a pity, for JW Marriott to lose its confidence in our minds.

    Paying For wifi was annoying.

Excellant location. Beach access to Chairs/towels & umbrella included. Yes its The 'touristy' Copacabana beach, not Ipanema oR Leblon, But its still a cool beach. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. That makes a HUGE difference when Youre away from Home and dont speak The language. They were efficient and helped with reservations at restaurants, one day itineraries, etc. Not pushy, as in pushing tours on you, But truly insightful. Bed and room were comfy and The view Of ocean and beach is spectacular to wake up to or from the rooftop pool sipping a caipirinha.
