Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

I had the most magical stay at Mama Ruisa. I was traveling on my own and immediately felt at home. Jean-Michel, Daniel and all the staff were so warm and friendly, gave excellent tips and went above and beyond to look after me. The room was gorgeous and the bed was so so comfortable. Missing it already. I’ll definitely be back!

ItalyNothing was not likable. Simply perfect!
The property is exquisitely refurbished, with a lovely garden and veranda and even a swimming pool. I loved the place! So, so beautiful. On top of that the location is super cozy and nice and the staff were all so kind and helpful. They booked my transfer to and from the airport and even booked me a massage on a very short notice and went beyond and above to make me feel at ease. I really felt at home and as if I was visiting friends (rather than staying in an hotel). I was traveling solo so that made all the difference! They even have the friendliest pets (a dog and a cat) that came to visit me while in my room. The owner is super friendly and very flexible in terms of check in and check out time. I couldn’t have picked a better place! Highly recommended!

This was a stunning property with caring, friendly and attentive staff. Everything from coffee delivered, recommendations, checking us in early.. This was during the weekend Taylor Swift was in town and during an incredible heat wave. I was able to book due to a cancellation and the staff helped us add another night. This place is top notch. Special shout out to the staff who helped us, Daniel, Valeria and Bruno.

United KingdomAn absolute gem in Santa Teresa with views over Guanabara Bay to Niteroi (unlike Aprazivel and Tereze which have northern views). Most discreet mansion house on a hill furnished with the best of Brazilian modern (1950s-1960s) furniture. Delightful pool area, just accept the occasional road noise to remind you are in a town (but where don't you in Rio?). But very quiet at night. It's a must for those with good taste/de bon gout.

NetherlandsIn general expected a bit more from the neighbourhood, but the stay was perfect in every aspect.
The property has this magical vibe of teleporting the guests into a romanticised version of Rio, surrounded with beautiful brazilian design pieces and the stunning view from the balcony. The staff is very attentive and discreet in the same time. The pool and the covered outdoor area are also adding up for a perfect stay. There are many restaurants and bars in the area easily reachable by foot.

Incredible property: stylish building, garden, furniture, every little detail was a piece of art. Even the breakfast is served with the cups, spoons and coffee pot which reflect the style of the place. The view is incredible, the food is great.

FranceCould sometimes be loud with street noise, but would still recommend and stay again :)
Property - Uniquely designed, beautiful interior design, and incredible views from the balcony. Our room was spacious and had lots of comforts - comfy bed, nice lighting, shower with good water pressure. The pool and lounge areas were also really lovely. Wifi was strong enough for video calls Hospitality - Lucas and the other staff were super friendly and very helpful with recommendations, itineraries and offering drinks, helping with luggage, etc. We had breakfast both mornings and it was delicious with different options. Location - Lots of bars/restaurants within 5 mins walking of the hotel. Ubers were easy to call to get around the city. Also some nice parks and museums close by.

United StatesThe laundry service took more time than we expected, but we got our clean clothes right before we left.
Easily one of the most gallery-like boutiques one will ever find, especially in Brazil. Located in the heart of a classy Italian/Portuguese neighbourhood with historical villas and interesting bars/restaurants nearby. The lobby and rooms are filled with fashion mags and interesting art, with furniture running from antiques to art deco. If you’re looking for a beachy but indoor experience, you also have a beautiful little garden with a pool. All staff are attentive, though some may speak less-than-perfect English. The owner is a tweedy gentleman and a funny guy, super responsive and recommends just the best spots to go to. He also speaks perfect English and French.

United KingdomIn my 15 years of travelling to Brazil Mama Ruisa is the most exceptional place I have ever stayed in. Run by charming hotelier, Jean-Michel, his beautiful team and Oscar (the pom). Mama Ruisa, is a grand colonial beauty who in her hands holds a thousand bougie secrets with silver service to match. Her views over the bay of Rio are unmatched in Santa Teresa and for those who step over her threshold, a lifetime of memories waiting to be made. Thank you for the exquisite wine list, the kindness, the cocktails, the monkeys, the humming birds, butterflies, orchids and the eagles above.

United KingdomWhere to start? Staying at Mama Ruisa is more like staying at a family friend or benevolent uncle's home than a hotel. Incredibly elegant yet comfortable, this lovely property is a peaceful oasis within walking distance of Rio's most vibrant districts and some cracking little local restaurants. Most of all, the service was so delightful from Thierry, Julie and Thiago - including a phone chat with owner Jean-Michel to recommend the perfect restaurant that evening. What hotel does that?! The room was incredibly spacious and airy. The decor was exquisite and every detail had been thought about. Nothing was too much trouble. Order the omelette for breakfast, and a caipirinha for the balcony at sunset and die happy!
