The main door to the building locked but the door to our suite did not. The lock was broken and apparently had been for at least a month. The landlord claimed not to know what else to do. Any other place would have called a locksmith. The suite was to be available between 10am and 3pm. We were not able to pick up the keys until 4:30pm. The landlord had excuses that seemed well rehearsed and well used. The wash machine that was supposed to be included was a coin operated machine that was dirty and for use for the entire building. There was no soundproofing. The bedding was scarce, the bed uncomfortable and very squeaky. This was the least clean and least comfortable place we have stayed. That's saying a lot as we stayed in some hostels. In addition to the disappointments in the suite, the fire escapes were blocked completely with what appeared to be boxes, furniture and garbage bags left behind by previous tenants and the building smelled.

The apartment was a third-floor walk-up in the heart of the downtown core on Water St., although we were supposed to have a suite with the upper floors accessible by elevator. The location was very central. We were fortunate to have brought our handicapped parking pass and were able to park on the block for free. There was no parking available with the suite.
