Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThe only tin opener in captivity was broken. I think it was the one used by Noah on the Ark.
An interesting B&B/Hotel. The Black Rooster looks like Topsy, in that it just grew and grew. So there are three (I think) properties which together make up the accommodation. They are side by side but not interconnected. Check in and check out were quick and easy. Checkout is particularly so. The instruction in the room is "leave your key and go" We rented what was listed as a studio, and it was ideal for us. It could be described as a small bed sit with a lovely large bathroom. The equipment was adequate for basic cooking, the bed was very comfortable, and location was great. There was also a communal kitchen but it looked unloved and unused. There was also customer laundry but we didn't make use of that. The one staff person (manager?) we met was friendly and professional. Although listed in the B&B section there is only breakfast if you make it yourself, at least in the section we were in. We enjoyed our stay and would return.

MexicoWe booked a room with private bathroom for $171.35 but were charged $218.50, When we pointed out the error we were told that the manager couldn't process a refund on our credit card. Offered us a 10% discount next time. We told him that we would not coming back to Prince Rupert.

CanadaAccess to front street parking was somewhat inconvenient.
Loved the privacy of our own room! So clean and quiet! Reservation requests were all met with no problems. Being shared accommodation, we had our own bathroom with heated floors! We were the only ones in the building, so had the whole suite to ourselves.

CanadaI understand there were not many people using the room before us. We could find many spiderwebs on things that are used frequently (like the kitchen sink). The floor was also dirty (no mopping or vacuuming for a good time). Not a big deal, but I would appreciate better maintenance. The walls were thin. Pipe noises, people talking, doors banging.
Full kitchen, overall space was good.

New ZealandWe were at the front of the building and there was a lot of road noise and talking outside, especially just after midnight when the ferry had arrived. It seemed quite expensive for what it was but then all of Prince Rupert accommodation seemed expensive.
A fairly spacious apartment with a reasonable kitchen

CanadaNeeded more than 2 towels but was not sure where to get them as we arrived back late each day. An extra set would have been helpful. A fan in the room would be a good idea. They did supply coffee supplies, soap…no tea towels just napkins.
We’ll located. Clean. Simple. Parking was good. I’d stay there again.

CanadaThere is no elevator so you must be able to carry your luggage up a few flights of stairs. It was no problem for us.
We have stayed at the Black Rooster before and we really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this place. There is a communal kitchen where we shared travel stories with other guests. It is a short 5 minute walk into town. We arrived very late on the ferry and check in was very easy.

CanadaWe were at ground level facing the road, so car noise and ppl just passing our window was often. The bathroom is tiny and we needed to maneuver just to sit on the toilet, plus there was no hand hold shower head making with lower water pressure difficult to really get a full shower.
Clean, comfortable, easy access and parking. Had everything we needed in terms of kitchen and living room.
