Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaWe arrived and were told that the Queen room I had booked was a "Pub Queen," meaning that it was above the pub, and we could expect it to be noisy, but not too noisy on weeknights. Are you kidding? I would never have booked a room called a "Pub Queen," if it had been described this way on Booking.com! The only options were to pay more for a suite or take a "European" room on the 4th floor. We accepted the latter and ended up in perhaps the most cramped hotel room I've every stayed in (smaller than Parisian hotel rooms). The bathroom was similarly tiny and cramped. The room was clean and comfortably appointed with nice linens, but it was boiling hot unless we opened a window or turned on the A/C. The pub is a lively place for a drink and entertainment, but one wouldn't want to have a room adjacent to or above it!
The location of this hotel is excellent - we walked all around downtown Nelson and felt we got to know the city a bit after 4 days. The Hume is a clean, beautiful historic hotel with attentive staff.

CanadaRoom was too hot overnight. Dinner food was ok - but not exceptional. Restaurant was empty on a Saturday night - probably reflecting the quality of the food
Location was excellent - right in town but quiet. Brunch was excellent.

United States of AmericaWe didn’t realize that if you don’t book directly with the hotel, you Don’t get the delicious breakfast. We paid $38 dollars for breakfast. We always choose the Hume because the breakfast is great. We were disappointed to have to go off site and hunt for affordable food.
We were upgraded from a standard room to a 2 bedroom suite. Great view of the mountains and the river.

Very clean, spacious room. We stayed for 4 nights in a room over the pub and the sound was barely audible. Earplugs are provided but we didn’t need them. Complimentary breakfasts were delicious. Staff was very accommodating and I loved the fruit infused water at the front desk. Will definitely come back. Excellent value for money!

United KingdomIt sounds like the management are going to be cutting back on certain things to contain costs e.g the Monday night music, which would be a real shame.
The Hume is a cornerstone of Nelson and has bags of character to make you feel part of a special place. There is something for everyone at this hotel which was highlighted by a very good meal on a Monday evening accompanied by a talented jazz duo. The place buzzed.

CanadaAlthough the hotel os straight forward with it, it still comes a bit as a surprise how loud it is. Nothing the hotel could do aboit this, but bring your earplugs.

SwitzerlandNothing.
The hotel was in a perfect location for exploring Nelson. There are many restaurants nearby and we were planning to have a drink in the Library Bar before looking for someplace to eat. We loved the atmosphere in the Library (with music playing), and it was hot outside so we decided to stay right there for dinner. Loved it! Also, we were lucky to arrive at a time when there was a parking space available next door and we were given a complimentary pass.

United States of AmericaThe wait staff in the General Store restaurant were less than friendly, and acted like the customers were a bother to them. The breakfast was filling, but not exceptional.
The building’s history has been preserved beautifully. The front desk staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. Great location!
