If you are looking for a simple affordable place to stay with a private bathroom to enjoy a nice hot shower after your hike or cross country skiing, this ist ist the place to be. Good value for 114 CHF incl. tax & breakfast. Parking is right in front of the hotel and there are good restaurants within walking distance of 250m. The Dutch owners will happily provide items like an extra electrical hearter or hairdryer if you ask for it.

As we entered the hotel there was an unpleasant smell. Basic comfort in the bathroom: towels were clean but a little worn out; only very basic toiletries; in the single room no shower carpet and only half a roll of toilet paper; in the double room the basin’s water tap did not close completely (sound of dripping water)

    Clean, quiet, good breakfast

The check-in should be open from 3pm. But at 3.15 no one responded. It was -15°C outside! We became the guest card two days after our arrival! Pets are not allowed but they have a dog. Not nice for people with allergies. The TV is at least 25 years old and tiny. The breakfast is okay but the eggs were cold every day.

Charming family run hotel. Very calm and in the mini village of Gluringen, which really feels off the beaten track. Owners were friendly and helpful. It’s really great value for money for this location.

Bring your own toiletries. Considering that is a cross-country ski destination we found that there was not enough soap and not enough attention brought to the detail, specially in the bathroom. Towels looked very old and were not very well folded and wrinkled, which made me think if the bathroom had been properly cleaned before our arrival. Also the toilet paper was almost finished. It is ok to do not throw the paper when there is some left, but usually a tiny triangle at the end indicates that they have taken care of it the bathroom has been cleaned. Also old soap in the corner of the shower (inside). Even those details the place looks clean. It is a nice place to stay, although the value for money is not quite balanced. You get to a 'pension' but you pay for a hotel. (This is normal in Switzerland, but keeps surprising us).

We were a few years ago there and we remembered it a bit better (it was high season then, and low season now). The village in winter is wonderful, with the cross-country ski piste very very close to it. The breakfast is good, the staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are very simple. There is a tiny room outside where you can leave your skies but they allow to bring your boots to the room (such that they are not frozen the next morning). A good thing is that we managed to get a vegetarian dish for dinner in the restaurant (not at all obvious to find in Wallis).

This hotel is a hidden gem, in super nice valley and very quiet and relaxing beautiful old village! Very good value for money, in particular in comparison to average swiss standard in that price range or higher, namely: 1. Very good breakfast: cereals, fruit, boiled egg, cheese, ham, nice variety of bread, rolls and croissants and very good coffee (Nespresso) and variety of tea and juice = very good value for price and definitely better than average swiss breakfast (which mostly does not have fruit or egg in this price category). 2. Very good bathroom (sometimes in this price range you get built in cabinets which are way to small). this hotel has nice ones! 3. Good view from all the rooms - really beautiful as hotel is on an elevated spot within the village - owners should advertise that more! 4. Nice rooms with some color and comfy furniture which at this price is above average and definitely more cosy than average swiss standard. Nice interior and fireplace in the common room 5. For Cross country there is a room with equipment to wax your ski - a big plus!! 6. Just 10mins walk from train station with good connections to Berne, Zurich etc.

    Nothing, all was good.

The owners are very friendly and helpful in making suggestions about what to do in the area and they have a dog who is sweet if a little shy. The breakfast was good (and this is most important!). The hotel is clean, quiet and very pleasant. The village where the hotel is located is small and interesting.

The WiFi in the rooms was not working but the owners were trying to fix it - not a biggy but was important to us at the time. Meal was fairly basic but again not too much of a problem, although there was not much else available in the vicinity - if you have a car it would not be too much of a problem.

Loved the friendly and flexible style of the owners - couldn't be more helpful; the view from our window was spectacular and the room was light and practical. Little village was ideally situated as a stop-over on our way westwards. Liked the fact there was a lift! Super coffee at breakfast.

Nothing springs to m\ind. The only aggravation was a local builder blocking the signposted route without erecting diversion signage. That was no fault of the hotel.

A family run hotel. All seek to please. A pleasure to stay there. With the car park outside the front door and outside tables from which you can eat or drink and enjoy the view.

I am a Canadian but I've lived in Switzerland the last 5 years and stayed in more than 40 different types of accommodation in Switzerland and I can honestly say that this hotel has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. On the website it says, that on request you can be picked up at the Gluringen train station 500 meters away. Well, the owner picked us up all right but with a dour face muttering "I don't have time for this" No smile, no pleasant welcome greeting. Throughout the stay there were no pleasantries from her at all, although I must admit she works very hard. When I went to look for her to check out, as no one was at the front desk, she muttered under her breath "Impatient" in German or Dutch. (I understand both) No guest enjoys being insulted. The hotel is 500 metres up a hill and she refused to drive us to the train station with our luggage on departure; she stated that check out time was too busy for her to drive people. Well, when else would you want a lift? 2 hours after check out time? Both my friend and I fell going down the icy hill. I realize that running a hotel is a very busy and time consuming job but don't offer lifts from the train if you're not willing to give them and smiles or a hello in the morning do not cost anything but would make a customer want to come back or recommend the hotel to friends. Needless to say I would do neither. I've stayed in 2 star accommodation with 5 star service---the difference is the people.

The room was clean. There was a pleasant young man who served us tea one night; at least one of the staff was welcoming. The view from our room was amazing; too bad walking down the hill was so treacherous in the winter.

The family room was just perfect for our family, with the kids in separate small bedroom. The family running the hotel were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The continental breakfasts were a real treat and the dinners in the hotel were also good. We loved the view across the valley and the alpine décor.
