Contadora, Panama
Great location and beautiful surroundings of Hibuscus House patio areas. I was met at the airport wth my golf cart and taken the short ride to HH. Tony met me there and gave me a short explanation of what to expect. Great breakfast and coffee in the mornings. Alan & Karen helped me with solutions also. Very quiet in September. Beaches were basically empty and it felt as tbough you had the island to yourself. Ate at Pimienta & Sal, Claritas and Angelinas. All great inexpensive options. It was great to practice my limited Spanish 😁
Lots of construction noise throughout the island during the day. Trucks and front loaders to share the roads with.
Cerro Azul, Panama
Location is excellent. Good birds, great view. The small pool in front of the room was clean and nice. The host is nice and was responsive to messages. She arranged ahead of time with the gate guards for entry so we could go birding before checking in (Cerro Azul is a private gated community).
Keep in mind that we only stayed a single night, so others may have longer and better experiences than we did. No screens on any windows, including the bathroom with is open air. Mattress hadn't been cleaned in a while and was covered in dirt or debris under the sheets. The sheets were fine. Room smelled heavily of something unpleasant, perhaps chemical like bug spray. There were dried flowers or potpourri in the room placed in a vase with very old water - we moved it outside to keep odors to a minimum. The room itself was arranged a bit awkwardly with no working surfaces like a table. There was a large biting ant in the bed, so I was glad we took down all the sheets to inspect before sleeping. Insects in the room can be understandable given the location, but host should consider sealing the door and adding screens to certain windows to prevent issues. No air conditioning, but there was a fan. The temperature on the mountain was fine, heat was not a problem, but the humidity left the sheets and mattress slightly damp. Each of the concerns listed above would be very forgivable for a cheaper room, but at $95 per night, this was both the most expensive room of our trip, and the most uncomfortable, so I was unfortunately disappointed at the value. The property itself is great.

It wasn't clean and it smelled bad. Even though I already paid, I didn't stay in the hotel, instead I went to other hotel to stay. I actually want a refund to my credit card.
