We really loved our stay at Caribe Town. The place is calm, relaxing and clean. Waking up to the sound and colors of the of the jungle every morning was beautiful. In the garden we saw a sloth, frogs and long lines of ants crawling their way along the small path. As the bungalows are not right next to each other you won't hear any of the other guests. The breakfast was delicious (especially the Caribbean french toast), the staff is super nice and helpful. There were two well-behaved dogs who turned around when we told them to (important to us, my girlfriend is afraid of dogs). The beach is just a few meters away (but not for swimming though due to rip currents) and there's a few good restaurants nearby. So in sum we totally recommend this place.

Drinks at the bar were expensive compared to the bars and restaurants nearby. The breakfast was okay, not bad but not great.

Quiet, close to the beach. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Absolutely nothing! You do need to have realistic expectations, if you can't sleep with howler monkeys, crickets and the odd squirrel knocking coconuts off trees and making noise, take earplugs! Although the owners have even thought of that, as they were available in reception. We slept very well, it sounds like a live 'nature' sleeping song!

Wow, where to even start! We stayed for five wonderful nights. Everyone we met was utterly delightful. It's a real family business. The cabins are lovely. Airy, clean, plenty of shelves, and the bed was very comfortable. From the seating area outside we saw: lizards, humming birds, squirrels, agouti, and a mother sloth with her baby! You really are in paradise here. The beach is about a 1 minute walk, and it's a quiet beach, no worries about getting plenty of space to chill out alone. The sun rises over the sea here, and it's totally worth getting up early to see it. Just a couple of minutes along the beach are natural pools which are good to relax in. Breakfast is amazing. Every day a new special, which could always be made vegan for us. We had coconut French toast, avocado toast, scrambled tofu - all excellent. The newest member of staff (Celina /Selina?) made us so welcome, making sure we saw the baby sloth one morning, and making crazy coco loco cocktails. We also took a Yoga class with the owner Karalilly, which was such a beautiful way to spend an hour and really recharged us. We also did zumba one morning - great way to get the heart rate up and have a dance! It was the perfect place to relax after a crazy couple of weeks adventuring. And there's so much to do nearby, we went horse riding on the beach (lost my hat cantering!), surfing, and it was very easy and affordable to get tuk tuks into the main town. Also fantastic restaurants within a five minute walk (a great Indian, carribean and a super pretty beach-side bar). The supermarket is also only about 10 mins walk away (and was the first time we found great vegan options in CR). We would return in a heartbeat, and hope to come back for a yoga retreat sometime!

I am a solo female traveller and wanted somewhere tranquil, safe and also easy to get around and this place was a little piece of paradise!! The hosts were amazing. They really care about their guests and are so friendly. I felt like I had known them for ages! They honestly make the stay really enjoyable. They had loads of suggestions on what to do and lots of boxing classes, yoga classes etc at the hotel which were great. The room was really nice in the jungle. You felt completely immersed and it had great facilities. The area is in a really good spot. You can walk directly onto the beach, or you can rent bikes to get around more. Just be aware that it is a jungle so you will hear lots of animals at night! My room didn't have glass windows, so it was a bit louder, however it's not a negative it's just an observation!

Sleep was a bit of a challenge at times so bring ear plugs! There wasn't any storage to put things away in the rooms so our clothes felt damp from the rain. Also the toilet is only partially partitioned off so not a ton of privacy!

We definitely recommend Caribe Town if you like jungle sounds as it's pretty loud at night! The breakfasts were outstanding and the staff were so helpful and knowledgeable. We loved Puerto Viejo and the surrounding area. Our bungalow was incredibly clean and I had a lovely massage too. It was amazing to watch all the animals around and to see the resident sloths!

Our quiet moments in Caribe Town Bungalows, (mornings 8 - 9.30am & afternoons 4 - 6pm) were largely interrupted by an open sports facility they have within Caribe Gardens, and positioned within meters of the lodge we were staying. This must be a popular local facility given it always seemed occipied during the day when we were there.. Continuous thumping of Boxing bags (judo or karate) ruins any tranquility offered by the gardens. Energetic group dancing/workout classes were also very noisy. This seems a little inappropriate during breakfast hours and those hours when guests have arrived back after a day out. 4 power cuts were experienced during our 2 night stay. We were told this was a local problem.

Great location. Easy access via tuktuks to local attractions. Staff very welcoming. Lodges rustic & comfortable. Breakfast good. We didn't use the pool, however it's more of a plunge/bar pool, rather than for swimming. Surrounding gardens very beautiful.

Small thing but the pillows could have been better.

This place met and exceeded our expectations. The owners (Joel & Karilily) are super down to earth and passionate about their little piece of paradise. The host (Kat) and chef (Sebastian) were absolutely a pleasure to spend time with at breakfast and in the evenings for happy hour. Made from scratch breakfast every morning was delicious and a great way to start your day. The grounds are beautiful and we saw a momma sloth and her baby as well as a larger baby sloth that lived on the premises. I could not possibly say enough good things about this place. Love, Love Love!

The property is absolutely amazing! Such a relaxing vibe and atmosphere. the salt water pool is brilliant and the rooms are gorgeous. You really do feel like you are in a jungle oasis, there’s wildlife everywhere and the gardens are just stunning. The breakfast and cocktails are also amazing! Best part about the place is the staff, they immediately made us feel so comfortable. Would 100% recommend. The location is also amazing, right near great restaurants and literally across the road from the beach. Can’t wait to come back. Can easily see how it’s so booked out.

You do need to remember you’re in the jungle and if you want all mod cons then this might not be the place for you - but you could say that about the South Caribbean coast in general. There was no temperature control of the water in the shower and the water pressure wasn’t great. Also, the Wifi was a bit hit and miss in our bungalow although it was great in the main lounge area so it wasn’t a problem for us. I’ve mentioned it for the benefit of other visitors who may need to use WiFi for work purposes. All in all, we had a great stay and if you want to feel close to nature and experience jungle life with friendly hosts then it’s a great place to stay!

The bungalows are in a fabulous location, surrounded by trees and vegetation yet only a short walk to the beautiful beach. There are a number of restaurants, supermarkets and a pharmacy within walking distance and a place to hire bikes (I highly recommend doing this) across the street. The owners and staff are very friendly and make you feel incredibly welcome. The grounds of the property are a great place to see wildlife and feel close to nature - there was a Mummy sloth and baby in a tree most mornings while we ate breakfast. We stayed in a basic bungalow that didn’t have air con but this wasn’t a problem as the open (netted) sides of the roof and the huge ceiling fan kept us cool enough. The pool area and open plan lounge area was a lovely place to relax.

We loved so much about this place! The fabulous homemade breakfast was one of the highlights, but we also loved the sounds and sights of the jungle. We usually sleep with a sound machine but we didn’t need it here as the sounds of the crickets and frogs and the ocean in the distance lulled us to sleep. Peurto Viejo is fairly busy but this place is tucked away like a private, secret sanctuary from which its a very short walk to the action. We really loved Cocles beach which was a 2 min walk from the front gate of the hotel. The massage offered at the spa was very good and the coco loco I had at the bar was the best I’ve ever had! We saw toucans and monkeys right on the property! Also adorable little lizards and frogs.

We enjoyed 5 nights here and loved every minute of it! Carrie and Joel, the owners are available and answer any questions ASAP. They were both born in the USA and are very easy to chat with. Sebastian and Kat are staff that prepared our breakfast, tended bar and were right there for us. All were very good about making recommendations of places to eat, tour and where to go. It was fun to photograph monkeys and toucans right on the property. And the best beach is walkable right across the street. Thank you so much for such a great stay, we will be back!

That we had to leave this place, we would have stayed and we will definitely return

We spent the most beautiful days in Caribe Town! What Joel, Karilily, and the Team are doing with this place is incredible: they make you feel immediately as part of the family, they create such a laidback, friendly, mindful vibe that you immediately connect to nature, the place and all the people around you. We were incredibly lucky to find this place and stay there. Not only the territory was lush, bright, maintained with a lot of love, but also the bungalows were comfortable and authentic. By looking at such bungalows you already feel that you are in tropical jungles in Costa Rica! Not to forget about breakfasts: every day different freshly made options, tailored to your preferences and appetite. If you are not full after the standard portion, they can always give you more and more until you are finally happy! Their motto is that no one should leave the table hungry. Joel makes awesome Coco Locos, you definitely should try it out! Also they provide a lot of information about places around, activities to do and great restaurants within walking distance. Overall, there are not enough words to describe how beautiful and truly warm the place is, you just need to come and stay there. I am sure no one leaves disappointed. This place is truly a gem of the Caribbean and we will definitely be back! Thanks guys for everything you are doing!
