Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

FranceWe loved the Macaw Lodge and most specially the wooden cabanas made of splendid exotic wood, the natural pools and cascades accessible after easy walk through the jungle, excellent breakfast overlooking beautiful exotic gardens and ponds. The opportunity to watch Martin pêcheur d’amazonie every morning, toucans tocard, pic ouentou, jacana du Mexique, dendrocygne à ventre noir, onoré du Mexique (French names)...we also recommend strongly this place for the kindness of the staff.

Tranquility. We stayed in the main lodge half board. Lovely food. Wrong time of the year for parakeets and no monkeys in the area but lovely birds, basiliks and frogs. Great quiet trails to be on your own.

United StatesMacaw Lodge is stylishly set in a gorgeous rain forest. It is perfect for nature lovers and people who enjoy the simple things in life. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the included meals were excellent. However, it is not for everyone. The 11 mile road into the resort takes about an hour to navigate because it is windy and rutted and only partially paved, but it is stunning. Do not attempt at night! Once there, you really do not want to retrace your route to civilization, so it is wonderful that they provide all meals. The walls between rooms are thin and you can hear your neighbors (in the Big House), and in the outlying buildings, you have quite a walk back to the main lodge for meals; it is very dark at night and little lighting. For some this would be too scary. Also, there is no glass in the windows, only screens, so when the jungle comes alive with noises at night, you are going to hear it all. For nature lovers, this is heaven. For others, not so much. Also, the wi-fi is very limited, there are no TVs, and getting even tepid water out of the shower or sinks, is a lengthy process and hot water? Forget it. The bed we had was lumpy and uncomfortable. However, having said all this, we were glad we stayed there for the experience and the beauty, but one night was enough for us. For others, it is a wonderful escape from the far less beautiful and more hectic everyday world most of us have or choose to live in.

It’s amazing property in secluded place surrounded by pure nature. It’s touching Carara National Park and it’s home of huge variety of birds. We made a great birdwatching tour there with local guide. Local organic food that goes from farm to plate was delicious (i.e crepes with home made chocolate really surprised us). If you love nature or you are just looking for total tranquility, Macaw lodge shall be part of your consideration. You need a vehicle with high ground clearance to get there (unpaved roads).

CanadaMacaw lodge is such a magical place. Beautiful setting, horiculturally interesting, and part of an important wildlife corridor. We saw so many different birds and animals. The highlight was our birding tour with Hugo, who is very knowledgeable about the area. We also loved sitting in the main lodge watching birds gather around the small pond. The food was fabulous, much of it locally sourced. We especially loved the fresh squeezed juice at every meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

United StatesThe long unpaved drive to reach the lodge was tough to manage in some areas. Watching a local cowboy drive a large bull along the road made for an interesting drive.
The blend of landscaping with the natural environment was exceptional. Everything was beautifully maintained. The open air eating area overlooking the serene lake view enhanced the delicious freshly prepared meals.

ItalyThis is a magic place to discover the power of nature in Costa Rica. It worth to make the journey to visit them! There is a restaurant that serve their product and the breakfast is super! It is super organised considering they are in the middle of Carara forest 🥰. Wi-Fi is limited to the pubblic area (restaurant and reception) but this is a plus for us. Well done Macaw lodge staff!!!!
