Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomBathroom needs some work to make it a bit more appealing. Floor was soaked after each shower and there was a constant damp smell. Balcony was huge but lacked appeal. It was also very windy so couldn't sit out on it as often as we would like. There is building work happening directly next door to the aprts, so its noisy and the windows are very dusty. They work on weekends too and start early morning, so beware. Pool lacked appeal and lots of cats wondering around sleeping on the sunbeds. As we were self catering we needed to buy provisions, and we found some local shops via google, however they were a good 10 mins walk and a bit dark and dingy, with limited produce choice, we had to go further afield and needed a cab to take us back with the shopping bags. Reception was closed most of the time, so lacked the ability to get face to face local advice and recommendations. Some of the apartments are up 3-4 flights of stairs, some quite steep, and there is no elevator.
Apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated. Location was great, opposite a sandy beach and a beach bar / eateries. Communal parts were clean incl pool and was empty most days so no issue getting a sun bed. The Town centre was approx 8 minute walk from apartment, and has a good selection of restaurants, cafe's, bars, gift shops, beauty shops, clothes shops etc., It has been regenerated, is pedestrianised and very appealing, with some great live music and dancing bars, every night. Some excellent beach bars with music too. Prices are very reasonable. Locals are very friendly and all speak good English. Local currency is Escudos but EUROS are widely accepted. Santa Maria in Sal does not yet have a currency exchange, so you have to rely on the banks, cash points, or post office for withdrawals. Note that the cash points only dispense escudos, and the banks /post office are not open on Sat/Sun. Of course, all retail places take cards. I highly recommend the full day (8.30am-4pm) island tour run by Royal Global Excursion. Their office is conveniently located in the town centre and is open early morning to late evening. Andre, the manager, is very welcoming and friendly, speaks great English plus a few other languages too. The cost is very reasonable at approx €30. Do take some cash with you to pay entry to some of the sights / places of interest you visit though, plus there is a lunch stop who take card or cash. Also take a large bottle of water as it gets very hot and dusty. Staff were responsive over text when we had an issue with the TV. They also carried out heavy bags to the room (as we were a long way from reception and up 3 flights of stairs).

United KingdomThe beds in the second bedroom are small and narrow, but with two full-size single beds, the room would be quite cramped.
Property is in a quiet area of Santa Maria but right on the beach. The complex has it's own pool and sun loungers. The apartment is quite large and would easily cater for 4 people.

United KingdomApartment, large, clean and bright but bathroom bidet and toilet caused severe wetness to the floor but we only let the agent know on leaving, so they can repair it. It was more than adequate for us. Pool area was very disappointing, alot smaller than I thought it would be, very few sunbeds and what there was were very hard, even with cushions. The Columbus bar and restaurant directly across from the apartments on the beach has sunbeds and parasols, for 5 euros each all day but you get a free drink included, again sunbeds old and most made from pallets but cushions included and drinks reasonable. It is a little bit out of centre but very quiet at night, we enjoyed our holiday.

United KingdomGot bitten a bit by bugs, pictures of apartments on booking com website are an amalgam of all the apartments so may not exactly reflect the one you ate staying in. 1.5l.water a little stingy!!!
The apartment is in an excellent location at the quiet end of Santa Maria beach. It has a lovely pool( a little cold in November) and is 1 minute from a lovely quiet golden sandy beach. There is a beachfront Italian restaurant across the road with a beach bar next door and a lovely bakery for breakfasts and lunches with the best ever ice cream just by the entrance. All of Santa Maria is a short walk away and Art Cafe is a minutes walk. The apartment has a dolce gusto coffee machine, so I bring pods if coffee is important. The nearest stockists is opposite Mekys burger bar (excellent)band they are not cheap. Good coffee available from bakery however 50m from front door. Communication very good although we never did get the remote for the Aircon but turned out we didn't need it in November. Fans were enough. Taxis to and from the airport were to the minute. English speaking, clean and well priced. TV had 2 X English film channels and sky news. Roku gave us Amazon prime and apple TV so plenty to watch if you take one. WiFi was pretty good in the apartment! We had a lovely relaxing time.

SwitzerlandNot premium, but good value for money. We had works in the compound for 2 days that bothered a bit, we had to insist to get some discount. Having some fans would have been appreciated.
Great location, 10m from the beach. Spacious apartment for 4 people. On the Main street to get to the center but far from the noice, it takes 15min walk to cross the whole Santa Maria.
