Lovely colourful hotel just at the right spot

No negative remarks for us, but be aware of the following facts: You'll have to climb stairs, because it is an historical building with no space for an elevator. The rooms have no airconditioning. During normal summers, using the curtains and blinds wisely, should be sufficient to keep the room climate at a nice level.

It's the right hotel at the right place in Lübeck. Colourful, cosy and clean. Once you enter your room, you'll feel at home. Every room has a warm, colourful design which is not overdone: it just fits and is in perfect harmony with the building, the street and the inner part of Lübeck. The mattress and pillows are very good, clean and of an excellent quality. Breakfast is good with a wide variety to choose from. They even offer gluten free bread and lactose free diary as well as different styles of prepared eggs. Internet connection is free, stable and offers sufficient speed. The location of the hotel is right at the beginning of the inner city. You can explore the center of Lübeck without using your car. But most of all, their staff is very, very friendly. You'll feel more than welcome at this hotel.

Third floor stairs can be a bit of a challenge with heavy bags although staff were only too happy to help.

Steep stairs to reach the rooms. This was a very minor issue for us, but it could be problematic if you're travelling with heavy luggage, elderly family, or have to carry a child.

Staff super helpful, and if you're lucky you get a room with a view of the lake, which is just beautiful. Dining room also gorgeous, and the staff knew we were travelling with a baby and had the baby chair ready when we arrived for breakfast! Also there is a very well-stocked library and kids play area. Breakfast was fabulous - good buffet selection, plus your choice of eggs with fresh coffee/tea to start. Spotlessly clean, great location along the old city wall. Parking in a private parking lot offered at no additional cost which we loved. Beautiful artwork adorning the walls.

    No elevator. :((

The hotel itself is not really big and high standard, but it is indeed very cozy! When I saw the picture on Booking.com about the yellow color of this hotel, it honstly shocked me (not in a nice way), but after I saw it in reality, I have to admit, this “shocking” color do make you feel bright and warm and welcomed (I’m not a fan of this color though). We booked two double rooms for me and my husband and my parents-in-law. Their room was at the first floor, which was somehow half decorated: with only half painted wall in the living room and shower room; while ours was on the third floor, which was nicely done as pictures I shown. However, both rooms are quite big, really worth the value. Last but not least, the breakfast! It was a buffet style breakfast, surely cannot be compareded to those 4 or 5 star hotels. But like all the rest in the hotel: it was nice and cozy.

The place is convenient to get to from the main train station. The property is well maintained and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We were lucky to get the last room available, which turned out to be an exceptionally cosy attic room. The breakfast was fabulous and we picked up a customized walking map from the hotel that outlined a great walk through the city. It took us through these narrow alleyways that we surely would not have found had we ventured on our own or used an app. In summary, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    • Stayed 1 night

Do not book here unless you like climbing stairs. if it's on the 4th floor that's not four staircases that's the double. I wrote them in advance asking specifically not to be put on top because well one it's exhausting (after walking the entire town) and two my knees ache terribly while walking downstairs. I booked well in advance. where did they put me? at the very top. I nearly cried. Paid extra money to be further down, they should've given me another room without extra charge. I've worked in the hotel biz too! Breakfast: somewhat of a joke. yes plenty to choose from, and good food. But for those of us that do not drink coffee; how about warming hot water in a kettle for everyone to use with plenty pf teabags that you can pick from. rather than... um hello hello can I have some tea please? well what kind do you want? what do you have?... They did boil an egg for me plus-side! They did ran out of salami or something and was getting it in a jiffy however after me and a guest had been waiting for 15 mins and we had heard nothing we took off...

Staff was very friendly and sweet. Guy helped carry all my luggage upstairs and then back downstairs after I changed the room. Girls were sweet too. They had big umbrellas you could borrow for the day, excellent! Much better than that mini one I had brought along. Very nice view from breakfast-area and windows. Room was cozy.

Lots of stairs (no elevator) - was not a problem for me, but ask for a lower floor if a concern for you

I had a room with private external bathroom, and it was not a problem: there is a sink in the room which makes things much more comfortable! It was great to have river view, tea/coffee in the room, and wifi was adequate even on top floor. Breakfast is exceptional in this hotel - even offering fruit preserves from its own garden, and a great selection of herring and pickles complements the usual ham/cheese spread.
