Room not smelling like clean. No elevator. We booked a expensive theater dinner (over 50€ p/ person) as we were told Rapunzel would be there. Our daughter was disappointed as it was just a puppet theater in German. No Rapunzel appearance at all. Check-in only at 2pm though Booking reservation was for 12pm.

Things you would expect in an old castle: creaky floors and some minor things that set it apart from modern hotels. However, we knew what to expect and were ok with it. The bathroom was ok and very clean, but clearly updated some years ago.

Extremely attentive and friendly staff, plus a beautifully restored old castle to sleep in! Only drawback was the bed which was set into the wall and had walls on three sides. Good for couples or good friends. The overall stay was phenomenal and well worth it. Very good service and a great breakfast buffet!

Having a history background allows us to enjoy this 800 year old property. Others may want chrome and modern, but this place had a wonderful character. Even kids will like this place; while the things for them do not detract from the ambiance. Go up the Rapunzel tower for an awesome view.

    We loved everything!

For some reason our booking from booking.com did not make it through. But they still had a room for us. It was super quiet. The gentleman that checked us in was great. He also helped us at the restaurant and with check out. My husband and I splurged a bit for this room since it was our anniversary. Our daughter loved the food! The town right around the castle was wonderful. We loved exploring the grounds. The bathroom was beautiful and our room had a great sitting area. And breakfast was amazing. It was one of the best we’ve had in Europe.

Very charming hotel in and old castle on a hilltop with a lovely view of the surrounding valley. Very warm and personal welcome from the husband-and-wife owners. Fairytale-like rooms with historic decor, delicious food in the restaurant, and a bonus for kids is that the tall, medieval tower that is part of the building complex was said to have inspired the Brohers Grimm when they wrote the fairytale Rapunzel.

It is difficult to find fault with this hotel. There are rather too many artificial flowers and the interior decor might not be to everyone's taste. Nevertheless, the place is wonderfully theatrical and, unlike Disney castles, this one is real.

This hotel is set within the ramparts of an ancient castle, complete with a dungeon and tall tower which inspired the Grimm brothers to tell the story of Rapunzel. The interior, despite its Gothic character, is able to provide the comfort of a modern hotel. The restaurant has a superb view overlooking the surrounding countryside and one can watch falcons and other birds flying by the window at eye level whilst dining. The food here was the best we have yet had in Germany and we would thoroughly recommend the house red wine. Trendleburg Is well-placed for visiting various tourist attractions in this area. The castle and the village are sited on a small hill around which winds the river Diemel. There are some pleasant walks from the hotel and along the riverbank.
