Not enough parking places at the hotel, which did not turn out too big a problem as there was a public parking facility nearby.

I have stayed here many times and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Wernigerode. For one thing, this hotel provides the best breakfast in Germany based on my experiences elsewhere and I've experienced some really average ones here and there! Hard to beat.

Only that the common areas such as lobby and corridors reek of strong smoke smell.

For a 3 star hotel which I only booked after midnight at the high before; - they had the extra touch of personalising my last name in the hotel entrance and room. - the breakfast was a bomb. They had a leg of ham, a block of Gouda cheese, plenty of various salami/cheeses, herring, smoked salmon, smoked makarel etc. - the young recep guy who spoke perfect English was so helpful and nice and made us feel welcome. - room size was big. Though furniture and state was old but it's very clean. I had welcome fruits. They do a good job with small touches that go a long way.

Linens seemed not very clean as expected. What bothered me a lot it's smell in the room. It was either from very old furniture or mixed old furniture with smoke though we had a non smoking room. But as staff can smoke inside at reception smoke was everywhere. For the price we had I wouldn't recommend this property as we stayed two nights before in 4* hotel for the same price, but quality was very different. The other hotel was much better for the same price.

Staff was very nice and friendly. Breakfast was very rich and tasty. However, for vegetarians not so many options. Mostly Musli, bread with jams and butter, fruits and eggs. Nice location. Very central.

Needs a bar/restaurant. Reception area is cramped but these things are expensive to change. Stairwells smell of cigarette smoke - it is Germany, people can still book smoking rooms. Decor looks like there was a big renovation about 20 years ago, and possibly is ready for another. WiFi in the top floor rooms is hit and miss but works well on the floor below.

We have been here 5 times and will stay again. That's how much we like it. The tiled Bathroom floors can be cold so slippers are worthwhile.

One of the best (Sunday) breakfast I've ever had at the hotel. The staffs were friendly. The location is just great, only 5 min walking from the train stations (both to Brocken mountain and and 5-10 min walking to the old city of Wenigerode. We had a great sleep. The room has a lot of space for luggage.

The hotel is in a very popular tourist destination so it gets very full. It is best to avoid peak times for breakfast as the dining room can get extremely busy

The hotel is situated within walking distance of both the town centre and the railway station. The breakfast is excellent and the staff were very helpful. We needed to make an early start so they arranged for us to have a full breakfast before we left.

Close enough to the trains but not too close. Just a short stroll to main shops and centre. Magnificent breakfast options. It's a beautiful town with a lot to offer in the region. The train ride to the top of the mountain was wonderful - for both of us!

The bathroom was rather small but I may have been unlucky with my choice of room as each room seems to be slightly different in size

This was my second visit to the Garni-Hotel Alt Wernigeröder Hof and it remains an excellent family-run hotel. Its value for money is exceptional as is the legendary breakfast. It's well located for access to the railway station and the old town and shops yet is in a quiet street which at night allows for an undisturbed sleep. The staff are friendly and very efficient. The wi-fi is fast and seems to be available throughout the hotel. A really good place to stay.

Could not find a socket in the room to charge up camera battery. Only one available meant no bedside light. Although room was at the rear of the hotel, much traffic noise was evident early in the morning. Not a good attitude from a different member of staff on departure. All I got was "you want to checkout?" Handed me the bill (I had paid the previous night), no 'goodbye', no 'thanks for staying', no 'hope you enjoyed your stay'.

The location is good being situated part way between the train station and the old town which is a delight to walk around with plenty of restaurants. Welcoming arrival from a member of staff. Comfortable room and a superb breakfast.

Our ground floor room was directly next to the road but this was usually quiet so not too much of a problem. The breakfast room can also get quite busy at times so you may have to wait a short while for a table.

A fascinating family run hotel with a great deal of character. Very different to the modern style of hotel where you could be anywhere in the world, this hotel is typically German and all the better for it. The location is perfect, with the station just a couple of hundred metres away where you can access mainline trains or the historic Brocken steam railway, one of the main attractions of the Harz mountains. All the facilities of the town - a good choice of restaurants and shops - are just a short walk away. There is also a little road train to take you to the castle. Rooms are very comfortably furnished in traditional style, with a nice welcoming touch of a bowl of fresh fruit awaiting us. But the biggest surprise was the breakfast! We have never seen such a huge variety of different cheeses, hams, pates, fruit and different breads - all absolutely delicious!

Would have liked tea/coffee making tray in room. Wifi didn't reach to all rooms - you had to be in reception or near the stairs to get wifi. Some rooms didn't have a shower, they had a bath with hand-held spray, one under a sloping ceiling so you couldn't stand up. If you like a shower be sure to specify this.

Situated between station & city centre, 5-10 mins walk to each. The superior rooms are nicely furnished with comfortable leather chair & footstool. The standard rooms somewhat more basic, and the single room just had a small velux window, with curtains that didn't keep ot the light. Excellent breakfast buffet. No onsite bar

Entire staff very courteous and helpful with enough English spoken to communicate satisfactory. Very clean throughout. Wifi good in all areas. Just need to ask for password at Reception. Outstanding breakfast. The buffet stations were arranged in efficient manner that eliminated any congestion. Very large breakfast room that resulted in a calm, quiet meal.

WLAN was a bit slow and some time does not connect. Third bed/sofa bed was not comfortable.

The location is near to transport, room size and facilities are good, variety of food in breakfast, all time coffee, nice staff . Overall good and I am expecting to be back there.

Some rooms are starting to look a bit tired. Perhaps time for a bit of redecorating.

Our fourth time of staying here. Breakfast. Value for money. Close to the hartz railway and town centre.

Bathroom needs updating. Shower is domestic type and not suitable for use in a hotel. Not generous with toiletries. However, would stay there again. Please sort for next year!!

Excellent breakfast. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Daily weather report displayed in reception very useful. Ideally placed for Town Centre.

Check in time. It is until 9pm. I called to hotel and fortunately I could check in at 9:30. Staff at night can't speak English well but is very kind.

Breakfast was amazing. Usually I use cheap hotel or hostel, but it was the best I've ever had.

All pervading smell of cigarettes/tobacco in corridors. Badly cracked sink.

Great location and price. Excellent breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff.

We missed the tea & coffee making facilities that are found in most hotels and B & Bs in Britain but seem rare in Germany! TV viewing choice in English was limited to news channels.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet catered for all tastes and was of a very high standard. The bedrooms were very comfortable and clean and we appreciated the fruit provided in the room each day. We also appreciated provision of a TV guide magazine.
