Because we check-in late just penthouse rooms were free its 6. Floor. And elevator brings you only to 5. Floor If you have heavy luggage it gonna be real problem and no air conditioner in the rooms

The wifi was not working. The hotel answer to this it was simply "on the upper floors the wifi is not working". We asked for another room, but it did not happened. I aslo asked for an iron, they don't have irons. The pillows were bad quality and incomfortable. Not a good value for money.

However, lift was broken, WiFi didn’t work and shower fluctuated between being extremely warm and extremely cold. The plug and light in the single room was broken.

The breakfast was decent. Beds were comfy. Good place to stay if you’re on a budget. Our room had a Nice view of planes coming in to land at Köln Bonn airport. I am the type of person to remember a place on holiday that I stayed more fondly because I enjoyed the time I had there. This is one of those times.

Overall we were very happy with the hotel. The room was a good size and very clean . No complaints at all about the hotel. Would stay here again . The taxi to the hotel was good and so we booked the same firm again for our return to the airport . However , having booked them for 11.15am, they didn’t turn up until 11.40 and then, on arrival at the airport charged us €50 for a 12 minute drive! So we did feel scammed by that but had no choice but to pay up. I just think I ought to mention this so that others don’t fall into the same trap. We should have booked an Uber.

Breakfast was very good really. Just noticed on busier mornings that things weren’t always restocked . But in general very good.

We booked knowing this was a budget hotel due to its proximity to Klasmeyer Aesthetics. The breakfast was good and the room clean. Beds are very low, mattresses thin and we only had one pillow each and thin single duvets. Man on reception in the evening was very friendly.

The room was boiling hot with little chance to cool down. There wasn’t an AC and the windows faced the main road. For me personally, too noisy to open them properly

I chose Hotel Mariella mainly because of its proximity to Cologne-Bonn Airport as I had an early flight to catch. Nevertheless, the hotel exceeded my expectations, especially as the rate I paid would have included breakfast, if I'd had the time to stay and eat some (breakfast is served from 6:30am, but my airline recommended getting to the airport by 5:15am ). My room was clean and comfortable with no obvious problems with the facilities. The receptionist was polite and quite happy for me continue using German, even though his English was way better than my German (or maybe even my English!). I really appreciated this. The location was convenient, it is about a 20 minute tram ride from the centre of Cologne, and about 15-20 minutes by local bus to the airport. The local district centre is a bit of a building site at the moment, but despite this the hotel was easy to find and I experienced no issues with noise during my stay.

Unfortunately as nice as the staff that were there at the time were, they are not given a room plan so have no idea which rooms have river view or which are on the enclosed side. They did go up to the room to check it was not on the side of the road but failed to tell us it was a room without a view, wasn't really a problem but you would expect the reception staff to know these things. Also it was 35 Celsius, the hotel have no fans for the rooms but leaving the extractor fan in the bathroom on with the window open did help a little.

The beds are nice and comfy, staff were friendly and helpful. Nice large buffet breakfast selection, location was great for my 74 year old mother to stay close by to us in Porz. Excellent closeness to shops, trams and walks on the Rhein side.

Only downfall I’d say was around the location. Few shops but nothing really open on a Sunday, arriving back at 10/11pm no food shops or bars were open, so if going for Stag I wouldn’t probably stay there as the last train home was 11:30pm. Which wasn’t the hotels fault I know.
