A Comfy Bright Retreat For Those Unafraid of Stairs

As I already mentioned, no tub, no microwave and no washer or dryer. I can easily do without the first 2 (my husband and I are shower people and we avoid microwaving), and with a laundromat only a few blocks away, the lack of laundry facilities on-site is not a deal-breaker. The restaurant downstairs does generate a lot of cooking smell, but it hardly affects the apartment. I would not rent this apartment in summer as it is on the top floor and has no air conditioning, so it will get hot. I think the apartment was very recently renovated, so there are a few little things that are still missing, like some kind of rack in the shower for shampoo, body wash and soap. My husband and I are in our 60s so having to retrieve these items from the shower floor gets irksome. I would also recommend earplugs as one of the bedrooms faces a busy street. With earplugs, we slept beautifully. When we were there, we had a bit of a gnat problem. There were lots of them, particularly in the bathroom and kitchen. We ended up setting sticky traps as we don't like insect spray. I informed Kevin of the problem and he said he would spray after we left and air the apartment out afterwards. The dealbreaker for anyone who is not reasonably fit is that the apartment is up 3 flights of stairs and there is no elevator. All your luggage and any groceries have to be carried up (and the luggage, eventually, down) those stairs. It didn't bother us because we headed out each day after breakfast and didn't return until after dinner, so only one descent and one climb per day!

One Apartments-Steinweg is a spacious, very comfortable apartment with two king bedrooms, a bathroom with lots of storage space but shower only (no tub), a living room and a full kitchen (stovetop, oven, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher: no microwave, however). You can see the famous fortress overlooking Coburg, the Veste, from several of the windows. The apartment easily sleeps 4. It's bright and inviting. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen table offers a good place to work. There is a router in the apartment which only suffered an interruption once in 40 days. It's located right at the end of the city center's pedestrian zone. There are lots of restaurants within easy walking distance, also the center-city bus depot, the Ehrenburg castle, plenty of shopping and a laundromat (the apartment does not offer a washer or dryer). The ground floor of the building is an Indian-Italian-Mexican restaurant run by cheerful Sikhs, who greet you amicably as you head in or out. The trash and recycling containers are in the basement, which is easy to find. The landlord, Kevin Schmidt, is not on-site but the keys are easy to retrieve from either an outdoor or an indoor lockbox. Kevin can be reached by phone or e-mail and is very helpful and accommodating.
