How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewWhat a lovely, serene albergue in a quiet peaceful town. We enjoyed the courtyard, relaxing with a cold beer after a long day's walk. Marta was an absolute delight and looks after everyone so well. Dinner organised with local restaurant 2 minutes walk away. Our room was gorgeous. Fabulous place to stay on the Camino.

Verified reviewWe were a group of 6 people doing the Camino from France to Santiago (5 by bike and 1 with a support car), and our stay was excellent! There was a safe place for our bikes, easy parking, and we were very well received. Clean and comfortable rooms, and a great location. Too bad we couldn’t stay longer. We highly recommend it to everyone on the Camino – whether by bike or on foot – after many rides and walks, it was just perfect! The host Marta is an exceptional person, very friendly, and she gave us many valuable tips about the next stage of the Camino de Compostela.

Verified reviewMarta the host is lovely. She speaks good English as well as Spanish and was incredibly welcoming. The shower and bathrooms are the cleanest, nicest ones on the camino. The beds are very comfortable, with linen sheets, and a fresh, soft towel was much appreciated. The communal areas are beautiful. There is a well stocked fridge with a variety of (well priced) drinks so it is easy to take what you need and to feel at home. The dinner is at a restaurant 20 metres away and was very good, one of the best we've had. All the beds have charging plugs and individually fitted lights, which were convenient. The place is relaxing and peaceful. We loved it.

Verified reviewAlbergue El Encanto is a beautiful place that leans into its old-world charm - staying there made feel I was on the Camino centuries ago (apart from the lovely private bathroom, of course!) The staff were helpful and friendly, which is nice to experience after a long day’s walk. Meals were not provided on site, but the local bar host a dinner and breakfast especially for the pilgrims of this albergue, and we had fantastic conversation with fellow travellers.
The shower wasn’t very powerful, but it served its purpose.

Verified reviewThe property was amazing. The facility was beautiful.
I was going to do 10 stars but I can’t. So when I first contacted Martha, I was telling her that I was thinking of coming early which I did. I rang the doorbell. She came out of her window and automatically got upset because I got there early I told her I had no problem with waiting at the bench until check-in. She then proceeded to let me in at that time. Everything was fine. I even helped with the dishes and clearing the table, but when I was coming out of my room down the stairs, I heard Martha telling other pilgrims that I was rude coming at 10:30 in the morning and demanding that I get a room at that time and she was talking so poorly about me. This is all untrue because I told her I had a bad experience in another. Alberque and I was more than willing to wait outside. Once again, I could not believe from one business owner to another that she would talk irresponsibly about another pilgrim to other pilgrims. It just showed me her lack of class and that completely tarnished my whole stay there. I was so upset that I went to bed and got up extra early and left early so I did not have to face her or I would’ve had a few words to her. Totally unprofessional and I will not be back for sure.
I'm sincerely sorry you had that impression, but I want to be completely honest with you that I never spoke badly about you to other pilgrims. I've always tried to treat everyone with respect and maintain an atmosphere of trust and welcome at the hostel. I understand there may have been some misunderstanding, and I'm sorry it affected your experience. We are sorry you had to pay for your bad experiencie at another hostel with us. I appreciate you sharing it, because every opinion helps us continue to improve. I wish you the best on your journey and much light in what follows. Best regards,

Verified reviewThere was no breakfast, but Encanto has an arrangement with a local cafe for dinner and breakfast (Pilgrim Menu) that not only gives a discount to Encanto guest, but has great food and a communal meal. The restuarant owner and staff are exceptional
Nothing. We have stayed here before and this time we actually diverted from our route by about 50 miles to stay here.

Verified reviewThe host was exceptional - so friendly and professional. The house is absolutely beautiful - set around a courtyard. Our room was amazing - so clean, quirky and beautiful. Dinner was organised by our host at a neighbouring restaurant - it was so delicious. Laundry service available at a cost of €5 per wash and €5 per dry - everything returned smelling beautifully.
Nothing not to like.
