We travelled by car and where lucky to find parking across the road - else parking would have been quite expensive.

Alfonso VIII is extremely well positioned and convenient. We could walk everywhere. Room superb. Staff friendly.

Tea or coffeee in room would be good. Lack of bathroom products although it did say you could ask at reception. The parking which was available when booking turned out to be the local underground park which would have cost 30 euros for the night .!

    Reasonably comfortable, good location .

Room very small, uncomfortable bed. Restaurant manager not the friendliest of people, we arrived for dinner at 8.30 which was the time we were told our reservation was. The manager shrugged his shoulders and said they weren't open so we asked if we could wait, which we did. Our waiter was really pleasant and helpful however. On leaving the restaurant, the manager came out of the lift with a trolley so we stepped aside, he didn't even bother to acknowledge us. Am afraid that we would not return to this hotel for these reasons.

No shampoo in the room but a strange selection of other things like a shoe shine and tissues. Pillows a little unconventional, out double bed we’re two singles pushed together, would be nice to have a small kettle in the room to make hot drinks.

We were on the 5th floor and there was constant sounds coming from the upper floors, like moving of furniture etc... It could be the restuarant from the 7th floor. I found this a bit annoying.

Big room, very clean, nice views for a very reasonable price. A nice discount on the parking nearby. Would I stay here again if I'm visiting Cuenca? Yes!

Advance info said no parking but in fact there is. I was lucky and got a good green line space just outside the walls 24 hours for € 1.05. My room was probably carved out of staff space in the roof, skylight but no view, big enough but had to walk up from floor below.

A fabulous interior and right opposite the Cathedral, easy walking to bars, restaurants, shops.

The secure parking close by is subsidised by the hotel. It costs 10 euros/24hr A walk through the park outside the hotel takes you to the base of the old town, an easy walk to the hanging houses etc. The park has several chiringuitos. Shopping area is on the other side of the hotel Very comfortable bed Excellent breakfast The Terraza restaurant is a good choice for dinner, there are fixed price and a la carte options.

Very little to dislike apart from bedroom walls being a little on the thin side for noise between rooms

Rooms and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. Walk once to old town as it is uphill and challenging unless you are fit and young. There is an excellent bus service to Plaza Mayor, buses 1 and 2 leaving from Colon street 2 blocks to rear of hotel and returning to Calle Juan Correcher near hotel. Fare is €1.20 and trip is less than 10 minutes. If travelling by car check in at hotel first to receive documentation for underground carpark nearby. Staff at hotel and at carpark could not be nicer.

The restaurant food was very Spainish set menus, but al la cart had a large choice although a little expensive for us.

Parking the car in a nearby car park was very easy, not far from hotel. The special hotel rate was excellent, system was very easy to use. Staff spoke English. Breakfast limited on choice, but adequate for price we felt. Room very clean and bathroom. Very central, bus stops nearby. Plenty of hot water for showers at any time we showered.

The room we had , whilst facing the park opposite, had the local taxi rank situated outside the hotel. The taxi rank operated until 02:30 and was very noisy until then. If the windows were open the noise level was quite high. With the windows closed there was a noisy air conditioning unit with which to contend.

the floor tiles in the bathroom were badly cracked and in need of replacing, we were´n provided with hand towels or bath mat on first day, but was quickly resolved the beds were hard!!, but the day we left, 3rd April 2017 ALL the mattresses were replaced with new ones! so some of you are going to be lucky the staff are very friendly and attentive, and the rooftop restaurant was great, with lovely views of the old town, and very good food and service

the location is perfect, with lots of bars and restaurants and local parks and gardens nearby good selection of shops too parking wasn´t too dificult, the hotel has an agreement with the public parking in plaza dÉspaña, when you check in they give you the paper with details which you present to the ticket office in the carpark, you pay the parking when you settle your bill at the hotel - simple!

Upon walking into the room was hit with a humid moldy smell, the staff reception could have been more friendly, and the wifi required a voucher and sign in process, rather than a security code, which prevented us from using devices such as chromecast. The hotel itself had its own wifi password but the reception denied us access. Also denied our request for a later check-out...first time that's ever happened to me...all in all a solid place to stay but reception could've been more accommodating.

Good location, nice sized room, clean bathroom, and amazing view from the 7th floor terraza. Breakfast buffet was €8 and worth the price. 15 minute walk to hanging houses and the "old town" sector.

    No sleep water torture!

The Hotel Alfonso VIII de Cuenca is well positioned, but parking is difficult. You need to walk (carrying bags) and free parking is impossible. The room was large enough, the bed was comfortable and the wi-fi worked well. The room was also fairly clean, although there were cigarette burns on the bed cover and was quite cold, the toilet paper dispenser did not want to give you paper. The problem was, you could not sleep due to what sounded like a water cistern topping itself up every 2 minutes all night, it made me think of a water and sleep deprivation torture. It probably started around 1am, but sleep was impossible form 2am onwards. When told about it in the morning the receptionist said she would tell maintenance and see what they could do, she was neither surprised or that interested. As we were staying only one night this was of no help to us, but we felt sorry for the couple in the next room who were there for a second night, they were also complaining. If you book in this hotel stay away from rooms 106, 107 & 108.

Large bedroom, free wi-fi central position.

Beds were pretty hard. House maids use very strong smelling cleaning chemicals so had to air the room out every time they had visited. Also the walls are very thin so if other guests are watching television, chatting or whatever, you can hear everything.

Stayed in a couple of different rooms - the showers are very good. The buffet breakfast in the morning is also great value and with fantastic views from the conservatory dining room. The staff don't speak much English but they were helpful as they could possibly be and professionally pleasant

Had to ask for wifi password whereas it should have been given at check-in as it is advertised with free wifi everywhere. Quite a few cracked tiles on the bathroom floor. Crack in washbasin. These should not be left in this state in a hotel. Not enough towel hanging space in bathroom for 2 large bath towels and 2 hand towels.

Good location. Very large rooms. Lovely view of the park opposite from the room. Excellent views at breakfast time. Hairdryer provided. Mini bar provided. Good size beds. Good choice of different foods in buffet breakfast. Taxi rank immediately outside the hotel so no worries about getting back to the train station. Good sized wardrobes. The staff were vey pleasant.

Having requested a twin room they gave us a double and the Kimberly Clark soap dispenser and toilet roll dispenser were as you would find in a public toilet.

The male receptionist whose name I didn't take was most helpful. Having requested a twin and been given a double they changed our room and upgraded us to a suit with a lovely view for the second night.

Excellent location in town centre, where there were some lovely tapas bars. There was a bus stop just round the corner. We used this for going up to the fabulous old town of Cuenca. You must see this place - the views are amazing. Hotel restaurant was good value.

The room was small. Just small. Also the bed was small too (though it was real double one). The room has only sanitary trash can and it's small too. There is small stairway to elevator, so you have to carry your luggage in hands.

The hotel has very good location at border or old and new cities. The room has good city view. The room has also bath tub of normal size.

Reception area a little tired and uninspiring and belies what lies beyond. Many rooms face each other as hotel is built in a square and it may be a little echoey in the summer

Location of hotel is excellent, at the foot of the old town and within short strolling distance of all restaurants and shops in new town. Hotel restaurant very good, breakfast a little pricey but two price choices for fixed evening menus. Excellent views from rooftop restaurant.

Printed information received from reception informed the restaurant opened at 20.30 for the evening meal. When we arrived at 20.30 the waitress took us to the lift took out the menu from the wall folder and the sheet underneath revealed the opening time was 21.00. At 21.00 we were told some of the options were not available and others written on the menu in front of us. One member of the party had Rabbit and when it came it was almost cold and had no potato or other vegetables, rice or pasta. A second member of the party had trout which was returned as it was not cooked. The trout also came on its own, without vegetables etc. My steak came with French fries and was fine. Online the restaurant offered a 12 Euro menu and a 16 Euro menu but when we were given the menu at the restaurant all three copies of menus only had the 16 Euro menu and we had to ask for the 12 Euro menu. Breakfast was much better.

Well located hotel, good accommodation, friendly helpful reception staff, clean rooms.
