The rooms are missing some maintenance. Some leaks in the pluming resulted in water on the floor. The toilet flush hung but was fixed right away. The noise from the dining room hindered until 2am. Some people having great fun, but less appreciated when you need to get up in the morning. The breakfast was a bit awkward but ok. Should one put a toaster in a wooden antique cabinet?

Rooms nicely designed and basically ok. The staff was very helpful en friendly. Great food in the evening. For the breakfast you only needed to ask if your chose was not there.

From the outside and inside the hotel is really lovey. This hotel is interesting piece of interior design and decoration. The staff are extremely nice. Everything is comfortable and very clean Our rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Dinner was fantastic, pizza was excellent, delicious salad. The breakfast was excellent with the full range of cheeses, meats and everything you would expect to see on a typical Spanish breakfast I certainly recommend this hotel for who is walking the Camino del Norte and prefers sleeping in a hotel

    See above

This hotel has huge potential but it is being undermanaged. Heaps of little things. Plates that are chipped, oil cloth on the tables, though practical do not auite fit the image. Loads of old and dusty dried flowers everywhere... This is a difficult one, a number of staff seemed to suffer from body odour. Not what you would expect. Flies were drifting around the breakfast ham and cheese. The breakfast was very mediocre but the coffee was good. The meal at night had a good menu and my choices were well done, grilled vegetables and a mushroom risotto with octopus broth. Just tidy it all up a bit and maybe put all the Nepal family memoribilia in one place. The reception seemed to be used as a storeage place for linen. And the cleaning cart should be well gone by 5 pm.

If on foot, be prepared for a half-hour walk into town but preferably use the hotel facilities because those in Markina are difficult to find.

The off-beat style of the hotel will be attractive to some customers. A lot of effort has gone into the décor and the chalet style is very attractive. A good place for long walks and country pursuits. Follow the dedicated footpath from Markina to the hotel's front door.

We had a very bad night with an infestation of bugs, whether bat bugs or bed bugs I do not know. What we did not know was that bites do not manifest themselves for 12-24 hours afterwards. By the time we reached the ferry, my wife in particular was covered on parts of her body with itchy lumps. In the cabin on the ferry, we found several of these bugs which were either on our luggage or our persons. My wife was treated by the nurse on board and they decided to fumigate the cabin. We are now at home in the uk: we have discarded all our clothing before entering the house and are awaiting a professional to come to fumigate everything in our car before we dare unload and unpack. This has been a thoroughly unpleasant experience and I am hoping that by taking action immediately you might prevent other people suffering like we have.

Good evening meal. Nice lounge area.

No air con. It was 40 degrees the day we stayed, rooms were sweltering. One room did have a plug in fan but other did not. No TV in my room and lock on door was faulty. One staff member on duty, needed more, he was rushed off his feet. Tables not cleared, some rubbish in the gardens along with empty bottles from previous night.

The hotel was billed as an old blacksmiths' which seemed interesting. However the hotel seemed to be promoting a mountain climbing vibe rather than its billing. There was mention of a pick-up service both from and to the town centre which, after the hike, was important. However this didn't materialise either way, and the taxi to the hotel (ordered by the hotel) ripped us off (EUR10 for a very short journey). Dinner was okay, though the signature beef dish, which was expensive, and tough. The outside area of the hotel was rather dirty, though inside was fine.

The room was fine, and the jacuzzi was particularly welcoming after a long hike. Breakfast was good.

This place is an absolute gem!! One of my favorite places I've ever stayed at. The location is beautiful and peaceful (just a little difficult to find - look for the small pink sign on the right side of the road while travelling towards Etxebarria). The brothers who run the hotel are extremely friendly and helpful (their mother actually helped me book a hotel in Bilbao for later on in my trip). The food is really fantastic and the hotel itself is gorgeous. I had the best time and could not recommend this place more!

This place was incredible. The staff here was beyond friendly and welcoming. My friend and I had just finished a very grueling day on the Camino and could not wait to get to our hotel. We had trouble finding the place and popped into a local bar where they called the hotel. Someone from the hotel came into town and picked us up free of charge. It was a god send. Dinner was amazing and a welcome change from all the food we'd experienced along the Camino. I would highly recommend staying here.
