Breakfast was appalling:low grade mass catering products: fried eggs congealing in brown oil:fresh fruit overhandled.Gave up on breakfast, couldn’t face it for three days. Manageress absent, even after asking to speak to her five times. She did not show us the courtesy of contacting us. The carpets along the third floor corridor were deeply stained: scuff marks along all the walls: no welcoming information pack in the room: no worldwide channels on TV. We have travelled across N.Spain for two weeks, and with one exception hotels and breakfasts have been faultless. Low score for staff, is due to the poor management skills of the absent manageress.

Great hotel with very friendly staff. Our room was really nice, a great size and the bed and bed linen were so comfortable. Super location within easy walking distance to all the location attractions. Airport a short drive away and the bus station 5 minutes walk away. We used Santander as a base for the European Rugby Finals weekend in Bilbao and took the bus in and out to Bilbao, which only took 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The food was much too salty - I ordered a mushroom risotto and a salad both of which were so salty I wouldn’t have eaten them if I hadn’t been so hungry - eat somewhere else! Unimpressed by the cracked (and mended) toilet cistern - I’m all for ‘make do and mend’, but seriously?

The decor; the cleanliness; the bathroom which was so clean and spacious. The comfortable bed; the large windows; the friendly staff; the speedy check in and out; walking distance from the port. The hotel was a delight and I would stay there again.

Staff are friendly, helpful and obliging in general, particularly at the reception. However, some at the restaurant tend to be a bit cold and unfriendly.

Breakfast buffet is not cheap but still quite complete and competitive. Occasionally, you can have some special treats and desserts to make breakfast a bit more varied, since it is usually rather repetitious (same juices, same egg preparations, same fruit, same ham and sausages, etc.)

Like many hotels in Europe they had turned off the air con because it was Winter This ignores the fact that rooms even in Winter can become uncomfortably hot and opening the window means guests are disturbed by street noise. We had an uncomfortable night as a result. This problem seems to be endemic in Even four star European hotels and i find it intensely irritating

The cafe bar and restaurant on ground level seemed a bit sterile and uninviting. To be fair, we didn't try what was on offer and I'm sure the produce was fine going by the menu. Our room had no view which was disappointing given the length of our stay but on the plus side, we were placed in a really quiet part of the hotel floor.

From Santander Airport, take the bus to Centre of Santander (Eur 2.90)trip takes 20 mins max. The Silken Coliseum is 5 mins walk from bus station and not worth taking a taxi. Lovely clean, air-conditioned double room with free WiFi. Very comfortable bed and great shower. Staff are really helpful and accommodating. We stayed for a week but didn't eat in the hotel as it is perfectly placed for a vast selection of cafes, restaurants and bars allowing you to soak up the local culture. Huge indoor 'Mercado' on doorstep (2 mins walk to the right) with array of local produce. Great museums and exhibitions at 'Centro Botin' with stunning views over the bay. Great people and beautiful City with excellent shopping, parks and gardens with beach only 20 mins walk away at Magdalene and further on at Sardinero. Boat trips around the bay of Santander and shuttle ferry to Somo beach are worth enjoying. Public transport is very inexpensive and its easy to get around. We loved it!

Not much of a complaint really. Cost of parking the motorcycle was same as for a car. Some hotels have smaller spaces for motorcycles and charge less.

The breakfast was passable - not really great at the price but perfectly adequate. As there are so many delightful places to have breakfast within easy walking distance it was not really an issue (and it is understandable that the hotel does not make a special feature of their breakfasts).

The main thing about the hotel was the location - immediately behind the plaza which meant you could have breakfast, a lunchtime beer, or an evening gin and tonic and watch the fabulous world of Salamanca go by, whenever you desired! The rooms were very spacious, well decorated and very comfortable. All the public areas were attractive. The bar was a little like the Marie Celeste but with the famous square two minutes away it was not surprising. The car parking was near by and you get a discount, being a hotel guest, so it is not too outrageous. You are permitted to park outside the hotel whilst you unload so it's convenient. The staff greeted you warmly whenever you came through the lobby and were absolutely charming and very helpful at all times.

Parking was full thanks to an odd 24 hour reservation system, but the staff were helpful in guiding us to a very close (and cheaper) secure car park. It suffered under comparisons to the Sercotel in Bilbao that we'd just arrived from, which was far more spacious and modern.

The cost of this room was said to be a 75% reduction: at 297 euros we cannot imagine anyone would have paid 75% more for it! The room was one of the Silken chain's 'Comfort' rooms - which, we now realise meant 'Basic'. The room was a double one but had only one chair and that was not upholstered, having a cheap- looking loose cover on it which had a cigarette burn on it - in a non-smoking room. The over-bath shower was extremely difficult to reach - in fact, one had to step into the bath to get at it. The bath handle and soap dish were awkwardly positioned for washing in the bath and for standing up from the bath, and the fixing of the shower guard to the bath was dirty. We had previously stayed in the Mercure hotel in Bilbao - through booking.com - at an equivalent cost, and had found that hotel to be superb, so it was a considerable disappointment to find such a down market set up at the Silken Coliseum. We'll go elsewhere on any future visit to Santander.

The breakfasts were very good, and, for me especially, it was great to find soya milk provided. The beds were good quality and comfortable, with good clean linen; the bathroom towels were good, too.

Room was a little on the small size, but well equipped.

Staff are efficient and friendly at this hotel. The location is excellent as it is only a few minutes walk from the seafront, bus and train stations, and the main shopping and restaurant area. The bar and cafeteria were good. We had room service on the night of arrival and it was prompt and very good value.

    Nothing.

Location was good - very central for all attractions. Room very comfortable and cleanliness excellent. The bar/cafe gave great value for money - the "menu express" was excellent. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

    Nothing

    - Value for money - Great location - centre of town, not far from tapas bars, restaurants, shops and sea front - Very well communicated, a short walk to train stations, bus station (airport bus) and ferry port. - Short bus ride or walk to beaches - Staff in the Bambalinas cafe/bar, especially Yolanda, Paqui and Miguel who provide excellent customer service and are real professionals. They are the life and soul of the hotel. Thank you. - Room 218 is a quiet room, away from the lifts at the end of a corridor. No view, as the room gives on to an internal courtyard, but absolutely fine in every other respect.

The staff looking after breakfast need to be trained on how to smile at guests, replenish cups and set tables without making so much noise. Due to disorganised approach ran short of available set tables, cups, croissants.

Location excellent. Close to bus and train stations. Reception staff very helpful

I only had breakfast once. It was of poor quality, especially the hot section. The orange juice was not natural. So, a coffee with some pastry costed me €14.50 !!

The city centre location was excellent. I was on the 4th floor and it was quiet. I thought I'd have difficulty sleeping, but not the case. The bedroom was fine, but needed extra width.

    Aee above

Right in the town centre so a little tricky to find. Only limited parking which I think would be a problem if it was full. Room was absolutely superb. Could not fault it and excellent breakfast

when we arrived in our room there was a really strong smell of cigarette smoke. The staff were very helpful and sprayed the room and said they would have offered us a new room although the hotel was booked up. After spraying the room it still smelled pretty bad of cigarettes!

The location was perfect and the room was really spacious and comfortable bed. The shower was also lovely.

    Nothing in our case.

Good cafeteria/bar for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great croissants a la plancha. Downtown location. That way you get to see the city centre but it's just a 5-minute bus ride up the hill to the beaches. 5-minute walk to/from the train station. Friendly staff.

Place was very dirty, old and dirty furniture and bathtub. Noisy. Elevator. Bad smell everywhere, specially hall and room. Extortionate rates for services.

Better guidance re parking. Arrived late that night and hotel car park full. Felt could have been advised better re where to park as car was towed away and have to retrieve from police compound at cost of €75. The hotel reception next day were not that sympathetic and felt that onus was on us to describe where we had parked !!

Close to the shops but not near enough to bars and restaurants.

A very nice comfortable room with an extra room with settees and another T.V. Which was unexpected.
