A disastrous place to be avoided at all cost.

Although on photographs, the hacienda looks charming and enticing, everything is small and ill-conceived. On the occasion of our (unannounced) honeymoon, we had the suite, which has no views and is placed directly over the porch, getting all the noise from the reception and kitchen area. The unheated outdoor round swimming pool is a joke, so small that in one movement you're on the other side. The worst was the reception and restaurant service and quality. Miscommunication because of extremely poor English and cooking knowledge, then arrogant and aggressive reaction when we requested the mistaken restaurant order to be corrected. In the process staff insulted us for so-called being impolite, the cook even pretending that we were racist. After a bland and uninteresting avocado salad as a starter, we ended up in our room eating our stock of biscuits (as our main course!) and departing early the next morning, without breakfast - but having to wait for 30 min for the bill to be written, as only the owner (who lives off-site) is entitled to write this - never to return to this dreadful place. One regret: we should have called in the Police to sue the hotel for non-delivery and libel. But who is in the mood of doing so during your honeymoon after a most magnificent wedding ceremony?

    Nothing. Total catastrophe.

We returned to this beautiful hacienda for a second visit as it is such a lovely place. The rooms are comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, the food delicious and the service excellent.

Limited food options and inflexible timings- you have to let them know by 7pm what you want to eat that evening . Cannot eat meal in your room . ( even the local restaurants served all day till midnight ) We were shown dirty frying oil which the chef refused to use and the management were aware of . There was No bar facility after around 10pm , staff almost actively avoided guests, no hot drinks facility in room & not even a bottle water provided. Despite advertising Pets are “allowed” they are definitely NOT welcome .. not allowed in any part of the hotel other than the room and as you can’t eat in the room it makes it impossible to feel relaxed leaving them in the rooms with antiques especially when the hotel doesn’t even allow children to do that! CANNOT recommend this hotel the way it is run by management currently .. but it could be so different with more welcoming policies and staff . Planned to stay 5 days , but we asked to leave after 2 days.

Beautiful building and quiet location with the potential to be a fantastic hotel. Nice pool area and plenty lovely space to relax in but no one ever seemed to use them as staff didn’t encourage or welcome the use of the spaces

Restaurant requires that you order meals a day ahead for dinner with no opportunity to ask questions about the menu. Breakfast not served until 8:30 which is quite late for people with a long drive ahead of them.

Winter travelers like us should accept either a noisy air heating or to sleep quiet, but getting chilly over night. City of Arcos not in walking distance.

    Didn't stay there longer :O(

What an amazing place. This is a real piece of Andalucian history that you can literally stay in. Our room was number 2, it was awesome. Had a balcony which offered stunning views across the countryside and lake. Every little detail was thought about. We had dinner overlooking the garden and pool. Service as exceptional. Owners were very passionate and proud of their achievements at el Santiscal. Cannot recommend this Hacienda enough

You couldn't just borrow an iron - the hotel would iron clothes for you and charge for this service. Also charges for laundering clothes were very high.

Not the easiest place to find but when we arrived it was well located within walking distance of the lake (which has its own beach) and a short car ride out of the village of Arcos. The interior of the hotel is very rustic and welcoming. The breakfasts were excellent - but the evening meal was a little disappointing and quite expensive in comparison to other places we ate at.

Liked everything, only criticism being that there was only one bedside table and lamp, and no fridge in the room.

Beautiful old building, full of history, set in wonderful surroundings overlooking a river and lake. The rooms were large and comfortable. Ideal if accompanied by pets, as there is plenty of excellent walking surrounding the hotel. One of the owners does the cooking, and although the menu is not extensive, the food is of very high quality and good value for money. There are some nice local wines available as well. Certainly a place to recommend.
