Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

PolandDecent old hotel in a walking distance from cafes, bars and 30 minutes walk away from Gibraltar. All good yet basic, some facilities feel old but are kept in good shape and clean.

United States of AmericaUnfortunately, it is "you get what you pay for". The room was very small. Bed mattress was not good at all. In spite of the No Smoking side, the corridors smelled like the Smoking Parlor, and instead of the view of Gibraltar there was a view of the wall immediately in front of the window. It is probably OK for one night due to its proximity to Gibraltar, but not longer than that.
It is very close to Gibraltar, and the price looked extremely reasonable when we made a reservation.

Value for money. The room is very simple and reminds of old fashioned student accomodation. Furniture has seen better days. Great for a night or two on a budget.

IcelandA bit damp and musty but I guess it's because the building is rather old, but it is its charm.
Great location in the centre of the town, many parking spots in 5 minutes walking distance, nice staff, clean sheets and comfortable bed. I loved the ambience, my room reminded me in an uncanny way of the opening scene of "Apocalypse Now". I recommend this place.

UkraineThe walls - no sound isolation (rooms and toilets), but for 1 night it's ok. The bed covers could be cleaner. It was cold..so if not a heater, then at least extra blankets would be nice 🙂
It was a good place one night stay! The staff is super friendly. We liked it!

United KingdomAs mentioned above, La Esteponera needs modernising as it is very dated and run down. However, it currently exceeded my expectations considering I only paid £15 per night for a single room.
This certainly isn't a 5* Luxury Hotel - you pay for what you get. But in my opinion, it's well worth the price I paid!! I was on a solo budget holiday to Gibraltar. La Esteponera cost me £15 per night for my own room with a shared bathroom. (The only hostel in Gibraltar cost £30 per night to share a room with 5 other people. The cheapest hotels in Gibraltar tend to cost in excess of £120 per night - so La Esteponera in La Linea is much cheaper than staying in Gibraltar itself!) The rooms are very basic and in need of modernisation, however, as I've said, you pay for what you get so you can't complain! La Esteponera is a few minutes walk to all the main bars and restaurants in La Linea, and about 10-15 minute walk to the Gibraltar border.

NorwayStaff were not very friendly and didn't seem to like receiving guests.
The room was nice and location not far from the centre nor from the border with Gibraltar, which is why we came here. Sometimes free coffee and tea at reception, also a microwave to heat some food.

United KingdomThis hotel is like stepping back in time, except for the wi-fi. From its cosy, communal reception and tiled marble stairways to the bare rooms with just one light and one powerpoint, it is totally authentic. Blankets instead of duvets, and more in the cupboard if you feel chilly. No pretence to offer a contemporary 'boutique' or chain experience - La Esteponera is honest, practical, and local. You feel you are where you are - embedded in a frontier town on the edge of Spain. Those who want higher levels of comfort and are okay with blanking out their location as soon as they step off the street - this is not for you. For the real traveller - La Esteponera is just right.
