Restaurant for dinner was dreadful. Expensive and both fish dishes we had were tasteless and almost inedible. Don’t eat there

lovely old building, beautiful wooden floors. Large room, comfortable bed.

More information about the town and surroundings would have been useful, as the information bureau was at the far end of town. Better directions to the hotel would help, as we didn't realise we could go through the no entry sign to get there; the Paradores sign pointed the wrong way.

Charming staff, excellent quiet location in lovely town, in spite of the busloads of visitors every day.

Difficult to find. We felt uncomfortable driving through the narrow maze of otherwise pedestrianised streets.

Lovely old property in heart of old town pedestrianised area. Friendly. Quiet. We dined at the parador, breakfast was good. Handy for Santander ferry.

We arrived in Santander by ferry, in the late afternoon. Santillana del Mar, although not by the sea, is only a few minutes' drive from the ferry port, so offers an ideal stopover, prior to undertaking a long drive the following day. The Parador is an ancient, former merchant's house, so oozes historic appeal, while incorporating perfectly comfortable accommodation. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel restaurant. The meal was very good, with excellent house wines; not cheap, but reasonable value and very convenient after a 24-hour ferry journey.

The extra charge to use the sauna.

The parador is in two properties and it is a bit tricky to find. We were in one part of the parador to stay but eating in the other part for the evening. The rom was big and well promotion ex, two comfy chairs, and big beds, a bit creaky though! Breakfast was a good choice of local foods.

Check whether the breakfast is included in your rate - I didn't and so was charged something like 15euros a head, which In my opinion was overpriced. No air con in the room.

Very central, lovely building. Get there early if you can to get a parking space outside (6 euros rather than 15(?) in the garage).

Instructions on how to get to the hotel were not great - it was a little tricky to find and satnav was really no help!

Great staff who made us feel very welcome. The hotel was located in a very central location, in the middle of the old town. This was only an overnight stay, but it was a very pleasant stopover.

I wish that the parador included breakfast in their rate. All of the other paradors in which we stayed did so.

The location was ideal - inside the walls of a pedestrian only medieval town. Free wifi is a plus, although all of the hotels/inns/paradors in which we stayed also had free wifi, so it is more of an expected amenity rather than a bonus.

Dinner is served in the "sister" Parador, 150 m away. Not ideal when weather is bad. On our one night the staff totally unable to cope with the guests requiring a meal and the ordering process resembled an episode of "Fawlty Towers", restuarant manageress rapidly disappearing to hide. Parking onsite is limited, might be difficult in peak tourist season.

Friendly and efficient reception. Room in quiet location Building has lots of character. Very convenient for the Santander ferry

The staff were not particularly friendly or helpful and the dinner was dreadful, nearly inedible. Certainly not the quality I would expect from a Parador, but others have commented on the poor meals provided at Paradors.

The lift inspired us with so little confidence that we didn't use it once and it was disappointing not to be in the main Parador building but that may have been a booking error on our part. This wasn't clear to us though until we actually checked in so would advise other people booking to check what you have booked. Wifi impossible to access in the rooms.

The staff were very helpful. We like the location, have visited before it before and would recommend it. We didn't eat dinner in the Parador this time but did last time and found it very much worth that bit extra.

Some people might find squeaky floors too noisy and disturbing at night, particularly if your room is not on the top floor.

Nice quiet hotel! Hotel is located a bit aside from main plaza and touristy streets - so there was no street noise. We were on the top floor, in room 36. Our windows overlooked some kind of garden which we found very nice and peaceful. Parking was available - a big plus.
