    Nothing

No need to wait for someone to invent time travel. Staying a night or two in Gil Blas is like living in a 17th century palatial manor with all the best 21st century amenities one might expect.

The beds, in general, in all of the paradores we stayed in, were very hard and uncomfortable. In addition, this particular parador had a heaviness about it. Of course, any of them *could* be haunted given their age and history, but better lighting probably would have helped.

Staying at the Paradores, and enjoying their history, is part of the travel and sightseeing experience of going to Spain for us. This property had an excellent location, convenient parking, good service, good rooms and baths, and a delicious breakfast. Recommend.

The prices at the restaurant were very high.

Everything in the Parador Gil Blas was perfect. The girls at the front desk and at breakfast very helpful and attentive. But I have to mention that prices at the restaurant were very high. We couldn’t enjoy a meal in it.

Restaurant service was very slow. Don’t eat in the hotel if you’re in a rush.

Wonderful central location, with convenient parking. Building is historic with lots of historic memorabilia that makes you feel like you’re living in a different era. Comfortable room and nice large bath, with a tub.

My wife has asthma and back pains. The hotel had hard mattresses and they had nothing to remediate the problem. There was dust, especially in the curtains - in the room and in the dining room. Many of the guests, during breakfast or dinner, were coughing and when we asked them, they had the same opinion. Per our request, the staff removed the curtains from our room but it still didn't help and my wife had difficulties breathing and sleeping every night.

The location is beautiful and the hotel is indeed like a true parador. The staff is outstanding and very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent.

Really dark in the rooms, and I don't understand the pricing for the breakfasts... 19 Euros... Really? Correct me if I am wrong. Most restaurants in the area have a full lunch menu with dessert for that. Will say that I was able to get wine, soup and coffee In the bar. The waiters were very accommodating... That is, the lovely female staff. They could get a lot more folks for breakfasts at half that price.

A lovely space. Comfortable beds. Filled with history. Quiet.

Very pricey both for hotel and menu del dia. Expected increase for a parador but more than twice the price for other 4 star hotels and three times for menu del dia wasn't worth it.

Excellent breakfast both for content and atmosphere. Good location for seeing Santilliana

a sun lounger in the courtyard- Some comfy cushions on the outside chairs. We felt the waiting staff were a bit overworked at times and had to be rushing to get the work done so as not to delay.

we loved the location and the old style feel of the building while still having all the comforts. A choice of areas to rest peacefully in was great and the bedroom was lovely. We also loved the food and wine

Dated decor and overall feel. Sheets and blankets. Expensive breakfast , mediocre restaurant food and overpriced wine not up to expectations for hotel of this standard. Bare floorboards with protruding nails. Noisy airconunit externally adjacent to room Poor soundproofing through bare floors. Noisy waste plumbing from room above. Cockroach found in shower tray . Our first stay at the Paradore group hotels and fell far below modern standards and expectations for the price.

More effort should be put in the restaurant. The food is below average for the price tag, and Paradores should strive to showcase the regional delicacies at a much higher level. The furniture and decoration, while charmingly old-fashioned, could do with some sprucing up.

Old style paradores charm in a historic building overlooking the main plaza in cute Santillana del Mar. Delicious backyard for al fresco drinks and snacks.

This was the second of two Paradors we stayed in on consecutive nights and one gets the feeling they trade on the beauty of the buildings more than the facilities and service. Being corporate they lack proprietorial zeal and are not as luxurious as they once seemed. And €18 for a very average breakfast was over the top.

Another splendid Parador and here it's in the very centre of a virtually intact medieval village but with some other notable buildings . Visiting Cantabria ? Then including a visit to Santillana is a must and staying at the Parador is the immersive option. Particularly good for the early morning experience before the village is filled with other travellers. It's a fine 18th century building (originally the home of a local baron) with some rooms in a nearby extension of apparently similar vintage. Fans of the Paradores won't be disappointed with big rooms, fine common spaces, a rather grand restaurant and a very attractive courtyard. Very close to excellent beaches at Suances the Gaudi buildings at Comillas and the Caves of Altimira

Hotel Staff telling us that ALL Restaurants in the Village are closed in Feb which was untrue. Pretty sure we were told that so we would eat (and pay) for dinner in the Hotel. Shady!!!.

Fantastic Restaurant in the Village. The Hotel building is a classic.
