its poorly sign posted to find it in the town, so you just have to find in on a map before you get there. Also its a new build in the style of - not a genuine old manor house - but well done never the less.

its a parador in the middle of a great old town, very touristy and crowded during the day, but that attracts lots of shops and restaurants as well, not far from other attractions, good restaurant and you can walk to a dozen more in the town. we would stay again,

Two small points - the reception didn't sell stamps for postcards, which I would have expected at a hotel of this standard, and the shower tended to flood slightly across the bathroom floor But those are minor things, and we would certainly return.

The hotel is a lovely old mansion in the centre of this historic village. The room was large with a small balcony and a very large bathroom. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

The gentleman on reception when we arrived was not particularly welcoming which after a long drive from the Costa Brava leaves a bad taste. Apart from this the staff were excellent.

The location is superb and nice to walk round the village when all the tourists have departed.

No need to wait for someone to invent time travel. Staying a night or two in Gil Blas is like living in a 17th century palatial manor with all the best 21st century amenities one might expect.

The beds, in general, in all of the paradores we stayed in, were very hard and uncomfortable. In addition, this particular parador had a heaviness about it. Of course, any of them *could* be haunted given their age and history, but better lighting probably would have helped.

Staying at the Paradores, and enjoying their history, is part of the travel and sightseeing experience of going to Spain for us. This property had an excellent location, convenient parking, good service, good rooms and baths, and a delicious breakfast. Recommend.

Everything in the Parador Gil Blas was perfect. The girls at the front desk and at breakfast very helpful and attentive. But I have to mention that prices at the restaurant were very high. We couldn’t enjoy a meal in it.

My wife has asthma and back pains. The hotel had hard mattresses and they had nothing to remediate the problem. There was dust, especially in the curtains - in the room and in the dining room. Many of the guests, during breakfast or dinner, were coughing and when we asked them, they had the same opinion. Per our request, the staff removed the curtains from our room but it still didn't help and my wife had difficulties breathing and sleeping every night.

The location is beautiful and the hotel is indeed like a true parador. The staff is outstanding and very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent.

Really dark in the rooms, and I don't understand the pricing for the breakfasts... 19 Euros... Really? Correct me if I am wrong. Most restaurants in the area have a full lunch menu with dessert for that. Will say that I was able to get wine, soup and coffee In the bar. The waiters were very accommodating... That is, the lovely female staff. They could get a lot more folks for breakfasts at half that price.

Dated decor and overall feel. Sheets and blankets. Expensive breakfast , mediocre restaurant food and overpriced wine not up to expectations for hotel of this standard. Bare floorboards with protruding nails. Noisy airconunit externally adjacent to room Poor soundproofing through bare floors. Noisy waste plumbing from room above. Cockroach found in shower tray . Our first stay at the Paradore group hotels and fell far below modern standards and expectations for the price.

More effort should be put in the restaurant. The food is below average for the price tag, and Paradores should strive to showcase the regional delicacies at a much higher level. The furniture and decoration, while charmingly old-fashioned, could do with some sprucing up.

The bedroom was in urgent need of redecoration and the bath needed re-sealing to prevent the damp on the bedroom wall and its consequent smell.

Beautiful little town with stunning buildings.

This was the second of two Paradors we stayed in on consecutive nights and one gets the feeling they trade on the beauty of the buildings more than the facilities and service. Being corporate they lack proprietorial zeal and are not as luxurious as they once seemed. And €18 for a very average breakfast was over the top.

Beautiful little town with stunning buildings. The Parador is one of them and feels special. Spacious room, comfy beds, decent dinner in the restaurant.

    - Location on town square

    • Couple

We have stayed here many times, but this time the WiFi system had changed from totally smooth and seamless without password to annoying -- kept getting cut off and having to reinsert username and password. A small thing, but be warned the old-world atmosphere includes really creaky wooden floors and noisy hardware.

    - Location on town square - plenty of character - friendly staff - convenient free parking - medieval feel does not extend to the bathrooms, which are modern and very comfortable

Access was difficult and parking tight. The restaurant service was poor and slow, if fact the kitchen closed during our meal preventing us from finishing!

Attractive location in a pretty town and nice for a stop-over night. Luckily, our rooms (which were well-appointed and attractive) were in the main (old) building.

Beds were a touch on the hard side and at 18 euros breakfast is too expensive for those seeking a light start to the day rather than a banquet

Another splendid Parador and here it's in the very centre of a virtually intact medieval village but with some other notable buildings . Visiting Cantabria ? Then including a visit to Santillana is a must and staying at the Parador is the immersive option. Particularly good for the early morning experience before the village is filled with other travellers. It's a fine 18th century building (originally the home of a local baron) with some rooms in a nearby extension of apparently similar vintage. Fans of the Paradores won't be disappointed with big rooms, fine common spaces, a rather grand restaurant and a very attractive courtyard. Very close to excellent beaches at Suances the Gaudi buildings at Comillas and the Caves of Altimira

Breakfast rather awful. Hot food cold, cold food (jamon) very dry. However asked for hot eggs and they were produced. Had selected 2 recommended restaurants in the lovely medieval walled town/village - both closed on a wet Weds.night in late March. Lot os tours on our arrival in town, but the whole place seemed to shut down very early when they left.

Staff very pleasant, nice welcome but not offer to take our luggage to room, which was fine. Bed very hard/firm, not comfortable for us, so neither of us slept well.
