Staff pretty unfriendly bar Abdul in the restaurant. Very little English spoken. Renovation going on at the front and in the annexe over the road by the pool. Noisy. Breakfast was poor and not included in the price.

The pool over the road was fantastic, and the restaurant in the evening sold good food but not cheap.

Totally ignored my emails for weeks. I had to drive up there in advance of my visit and speak to them in person before they started to respond to my requests. The woman I met was rude and unhelpful but the message got through as my subsequent emails - and requests, e.g. for takeaway breakfast - were met very satisfactorily. I tried to book the restaurant by email but as they didn't respond I went elsewhere.

There were no problems with the hotel itself.

There was a constant smell of paint fumes which were irritating at times. No need for that as paint can be bought that is fume free.

My room was a little noisy. I dont mean noise from the road or the bar below. Couldnt hear that. Maybe it was just the room I had (201) but any noise made by other guests coming and going, opening and closing of doors, really travelled.

Large bedroom and bathroom. Bathroom had a proper sized bath! Hotel was within easy walking distance to the sea. Nice bar and restaurant. Friendly staff. Great spa facilities.

This is a good value for money hotel in a very convenient location if you want to get to the sky diving drop zone and have the benefit of the beach within walking distance, along with all the restaurants and bars. Empuriabrava has great restaurants to chose from especially if you love fish..hotel portofino is a budget hotel so basic but great value.

Maybe for couples it is a good hotel. The place is composed by two different buildings, the one we see in the pictures with a swimming pool is exclusive double rooms, family rooms are located in another building, an old one were the room is not very clean, beds not very confortables. The city is not interesting, it's more like a giant pier with many boats and ugly houses. In the end it was a stop on the road to go to better places in Costa Brava.

We needed more draw space in the room, but it did not impact on our stay.

The room we had (203) had a lovely wrap-around balcony overlooking canal and street. The room was large and spacious with a great bathroom. For those interested in a good pub, the hotel bar was probably the best bar in town (according to friends we were visiting).

There was building work going on at arrival, dust everywhere and unsuitable for asthma sufferers. Hotel is above a bar/restaurant. Small basic room, noisy as overlooking main road. Tried to get a kettle in the room (for medicine) but couldn't. Had to leave and had to pay the commission to the hotel for our booking which was made 10 minutes prior to arrival. Extra charge to use swimming pool and sauna when that's what sells the hotel! Outrageous and so inflexible after making 5 previous bookings. Booking.com policy needs to be looked at in such circumstances as no way to cancel without paying for an unacceptable room!!!

We requested a twin bedded room with a canal view, what we were offered was a double overlooking the the road! I spoke to the receptionist and he said "everybody wants a canal view", he then offered a twin in the annex across the road, the room was very clean and the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was in need of a facelift, the hot water was at best tepid. Some lights in the bathroom needed replacing. The area around the outdoor pool was in need of cleaning, seagull poop was evident, but the pool looked very clean.

The location was within walking distance of the beach, approx 20 minutes and close to the canals. The breakfast was good, eggs and bacon if you wanted them, also a good cold selection. We didn't eat in the restaurant but it was very popular.

Bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The doors were noisy, and had to be slammed to shut so this led to a rude awakening from neighbours often. Road outside noisy. Most mornings had to have breakfast along the road. Pool is on the other side of this road. Beach is a solid 15 minute walk away, but a flat manageable walk, if your fit enough. Staff mostly friendly, but some not so pleasant, but with a hotel full of non Spanish speaking residents it could be tough. Sometimes heard the bar below on an evening, but nothing ear plugs didn't sort.

An easy location, straight walk down to the beach. a good choice for breakfast, and available until 10:30. Although limited seating inside it did mean we got a nice view of the marina. Bar lively. Room was clean, and cleaned with new towels daily. We had a good balcony which was on a corner so caught the sun at all times. Pool was a good size and plenty of sunbeds.

Unexpectedly, they have second facility across the road with. Room was not clean, window glass was cracked, unpleasent smell of cleaning agent.

Breakfast was nice. Staff was friendly.

Very strong smell of cigarette everywhere in the hotel. Even the bedsheets were smelly. Not very clean. Noise of ventilation at night that couldn't be stop. Some light from the exit sign couldn't be switched off either. The wifi was slower than ever, even at 7am in the morning.

    Good location

A little noise from the street, definitively acceptable

It took about 25 mins to check in as the receptionist wasn't there... But in fairness they did give me a free coffee in the bar while i waited.

I booked the Hotel Purtofino on booking.com for a pretty cheap rate, but was very pleased. Stayed for 8 nights, the room was cleaned to a good standard daily with towels changed daily also. They have a lovely bar downstairs (Oceans Irish Tavern - titanic themed) which cannot be heard when in your room. There is also a restaurant attached to the hotel (this is where the buffet breakfast is served) which I ate in one evening and was very nice. There is a functioning lift to all levels and facilities for less able bodied persons throughout the hotel (wheel chair ramps, handles in the bath etc) All in all a 5/5 from me on this place.
