How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Verified reviewOur host was very helpful and attentive, and we had a good breakfast before leaving. The room was clean and adequate for a short stay and the house is in a quiet street. There was ample off road parking.
There was a small window in the door, so the room was a little dark and uninviting.

I don't give negative feedback very often however in this case I feel it would be appropriate and I'm hoping that the host would take something out of it for their benefit. As we arrived we were not sure where to go as the house has a few doors. Marie eventually came to welcome us and invited us in. Walking through the door was a shock! The room - presumably living room and also the main room where the host seems to live - was a complete mess with piles of clothes and stuff laying around. More like a hoarder's den than a place you would invite strangers to. The kitchen was the next room on the way to our apartment. I can't say it was dirty per se but definitely untidy. Upstairs the room looked shabby with a bathroom that did smell of disinfectant but looked well used with mouldy corners and lots of holes in grout between tiles. Generally, the property is well beyond its glory and would do with proper refurbishment. Also, can't see why you walk people through your messy living room and kitchen if there is another way to the rooms - dining room with its separate door. To sum this up, the property has great potential and can benefit from its location but would need a bit of investment and hard work.

Verified reviewThe staff were very friendly and let us check in a bit earlier, Joel sent us a nice e-booklet with clear information about the property. The bathroom and shower were clean. The lady let us use a big fan to reduce the 30°C heat from outside. The beds were comfortable. The staff let us use the kitchen to cook a simple dinner, we were very grateful. We could also leave our luggage after checkout to explore Mont Saint Michel in the morning.
The weather was extremely hot on our arrival, but the fan and shower helped :)

Wifi in my room is not stable

I am, however, sincerely sorry and surprised to read that you found me unfriendly, which led to your very low score for our staff. I believe this impression may be linked to our conversation regarding the check-out time on your departure day. I apologize if my request for you to vacate the room after 10:00 AM came across as unwelcoming. Our housekeeper needs to access the rooms at that time to prepare them for our next guests, and we must respect her schedule. For the benefit of future guests, our check-out time is by 10:00 AM at the latest, as stated in our policies and on booking platforms. This ensures we have enough time for a thorough cleaning. However, we are always happy to offer flexibility when possible. Guests are welcome to leave their luggage with us after checking out to continue exploring the area. We can also often accommodate early check-ins upon request, provided the room is ready. Good communication in advance is always the key. Verified reviewIt is in Beauvoir. The hosts were very nice and friendly, and allowed us to put a bottle of wine in the frig and ice in their freezer (I’d just had unplanned foot surgery & had to ice frequently).
Our room was dirty, needed many repairs, had mold growing in tile, tub & shower. Mattress was lumpy, pillows horrible, linens had holes & smelled of mildew. Mattress was stained and also had holes and there was no mattress pad. . One light didn’t work. There were only 4 hangers and 3 are broken.

I am, however, extremely concerned and sincerely sorry to read your description of the room's condition. The issues you've described concerning cleanliness, the bedding, and items in need of repair are not at all up to the standard we strive to provide at "Les Salles" Bed & Breakfast. I deeply regret that you did not feel comfortable bringing these points to my attention at any time during your multi-day stay. Had I been aware of any of these issues—the light bulb, the hangers, or your dissatisfaction with the mattress and pillows—I would have acted immediately to find a solution to make your stay more comfortable. For instance, we have different types of pillows available for our guests upon request. Since your review, we have thoroughly inspected the room. We have replaced all hangers and the faulty light bulb, and re-verified the condition of all linens and the mattress. Regarding the bathroom, we take feedback on cleanliness very seriously and have reinforced our cleaning protocols. The black grout used in some areas can sometimes be mistaken for mold, but we have double-checked everything to ensure our standards are met.
